Yeah, that's what's going on here. The group he belongs to used to be the ruling class of my story's fictional country in the old days (technically became the ruling class, were rebelled against and overthrown, became the rulers again, sucked and were overthrown again and are now irrelevant, and they are a little pissed about it lol.). Coming up with reasons why people would dress certain ways has actually been a fun worldbuilding thing

It's a separate setting, a fictional group of islands, each island being a different (also fictional) country. The island the story itself is mostly set on is the biggest of them (and the only one still without a name, because I can't decide on one... xD it has been nameless for so long that nothing feels "right" anymore).
Ooh, i have two suggestions if you can't decide on a name.
Make it being nameless as something in the culture (for example they feel that it's too great to be humanly named, or the name is a secret known only by a few). People from other cultures might give it unofficial names
Use this language generator where you can input rules for the people's language / naming style, and it'll output a lot of name options. Great way to get creative names that fit the culture
