Scanning Colored Pencil

So I've come to realize that my 3-in-1 scanner does a crappy job of scanning pencil color. Anyone got some tips or tricks that'll lead me to improved pencil color scans? I like working with pencil color a lot, but there's no point in using it if the scans turn out so awful.
