The painting deals with the subtle relation between the main subject and its surroundings, and through symbolism also with the borders between reality and dreams/imagination. The ambiguity of the relations and borders is achieved visually by using a semi-abstract presentation which could be interpreted in several ways, and by using similar colors, shapes, lines and brush work throughout. In contrast, a few facial features, particularly the eyes, are well defined and painted with more realism. This is designed to engage the observer and draw the attention to the significant, individualistic presence. The small size of the painting facilitated painting it in one session, while the thoughts and feelings are fresh.
