PROFILE

Name: Koral the Orca

Nicknames:

Species: Orca (Killer Whale)
Gender: Female
Age: 30

Alignment: Hero

Back story:

Koral once lived in a aquatic village off the coast of Icy Isle where she was initially trained in the arts of Hydro-Kinesis to be a warrior, but gave up that training once she fell in love and settled down with her new husband Breaker the Orca and eventually had two kids, a son named Raft, and a daughter named Posey. The family had a happy few years before deciding to take a trip to Emerald Coast for a vacation, but Breaker decided to take a route to avoid reported Eggman Empire activity. Unfortunately this shortcut took them into the path of a giant maelstrom, and it pulled the family's vehicle apart separating Koral from her family. Koral eventually washed up on the shores near a port town in Holoska called Ice Wreck Village (so named due to a nearby ship graveyard), where the villagers took her in and tended to her injuries for the next few weeks. When she eventually woke up she shown around town and they explained how they found her and asked her how she got in that state. Koral sadly told them what happened and tearfully begged them to let her go and find her family, but she was still too injured to travel yet so she stayed a little longer. During her recovery over the next few weeks Koral once saved two kids who were playing on one of the floating ship wrecks, their mother's cries triggered memories of herself crying out for her family so she instinctively jumped into action, displaying an impressive feat of her strength and hydro-kinesis she hasn't used in years. The town applauded her as a hero and fully welcomed her with a party, where she got to know almost everyone in town.

Once her injuries were fully healed she was ready to go out and search for her lost family, thanking the towns people for their kindness. She swam for days before finding the remains of the family vehicle, a fair distance away from where the maelstrom was, but there was no signs of Breaker or the kids. Koral then tried searching Emerald Coast since that's where they were headed before the accident, but nobody had seen any Mobian Orcas there for months. She finally tried going back to her home near Icy Isle but it had been invaded and was now under the control of the Eggman Empire.

It was here that Koral was picked up by the Arctic Freedom Fighters, who offered to help her if she joined their group as extra muscle. She agreed but only after they explained there was a faction in the Empire mostly populated by cyborg Orcas led by Akhlut the Orca, so it was possible her family was taken by them and either made prisoners or forced into serving as cyborgs. Koral worked with the AFF for some months as they fought against Akhlut's faction, getting to know the team as friends, until they broke their way into his Intelligence network where they listed all known members of the Egg Army and their prisoner records. Sadly there was no mention of a male orca named Breaker nor any Orca children being captured in the last few years anywhere in the database. The sheer disappointment of this dead end she's been chasing for months made Koral quit the AFF, though she thanked the team for being her friend and for all their help, and they wished her luck though were sad to let her go.

No where else to go, Koral went back to Ice Wreck Village and took up salvaging as a job and started living amongst the villagers as a local hero, protecting them from Eggman forces and pirate attacks, all the while still searching for her lost family.

Personality: Koral is often described as calm and wise, quite mellow in her overall interactions with people, rarely ever raising her voice or yelling. Very warm hearted with strong motherly instincts due to being a mother herself, she has a soft spot for children and loves looking after them. She’s also quite a social butterfly and very friendly as she enjoys meeting new people and going out for group activities or hanging out with friends at the local bar, knowing everybody’s name in Ice Break Village. Plus she’s also a bit of an attention seeker, clearly enjoys it when people applaud her for saving the town from pirates or showing off her strength in games, or when she gets admirers complimenting her, especially when at the beach. But she never goes out of her way to get attention like a glory hog or get jealous when someone else gets more attention, she has a more mature and selfless attitude towards it and simply enjoys whatever naturally comes to her. Something of a Passive Extrovert if such a thing exists. However this need to fill her life with friends and admirers is just her way of filling the void in her heart her family use to fill before she lost them. And while she loves her “Surrogate” family that is the villagers of Ice Wreck, it doesn’t erase the fact that Koral is a lonely mother deep down who misses her real family dreadfully, even crying herself to sleep on occasion when the loneliness and the mystery of what has become of her husband and children gets to her. And while Koral has since made a number of friends over the years, some even close enough to consider lovers, she struggles with the guilt that she could be potentially be unfaithful to Breaker if he was still alive somewhere.

Likes: Making friends, social gatherings, tests of strength, sun bathing on a beach, showing off, children, cooking,

Dislikes: Being alone, bullies and jerks, spicey food,

Team Type: Power

Abilities:

  • Super Strength; Koral is naturally very strong, can punch and throw boulders, also her tail is especially strong.

  • Highly Durable; She is very tough and can take a lot of blunt force attacks. This makes up for her slow speed in fights.

  • Hydro-Kinesis; She was trained by her old village warriors to control water with her mind to enhance her fighting ability by making the water denser to make a protective shield, shooting torrents of water for range attacks, summoning a wave to ride on, and surrounding her fists in dense water to enhance her punches. However her training in incomplete as she gave up on it to raise her family. While she has found use for these skills in the present in her fights against Eggman and Pirates, she’s limited in her ability as she never learned how to use all forms of water like ice and vapour.

  • Swimming; Being an aquatic mobian, Koral is a natural swimmer. While not as fast or agile as Dolphins and other smaller swimmers, her powerful tail allows her great bursts of speed and manoeuvrability when swimming.

  • Echo Location; Uses sound waves to locate objects and people from a great distance. Really useful when navigating in the dark depths or in caves. Can also be used to communicate with other mobians who use Echo-Location, very handy when trying to keep a conversation secret from strangers.

  • Aquatic Life Communication; Koral can speak to and understand aquatic non-mobian animals such as fish and whales, especially Orcas, though she can’t control them.

  • Cooking; Koral learned how to cook when she started her family with Breaker and has become quite good in preparing dishes involving fish and other meats. Her specialty is her famous Sea Life Stew.

  •

    Items/Equipment:

  • Goggles; Once belonged to her husband Breaker and was the only item she could find of him. She wears them to remember him and the kids, even if she doesn’t have much use of them herself.

  •

Profession: Apart from protecting the town from invading pirates and Eggman forces as the local hero, Koral makes a living mostly as a Salvager, searching the ocean floor for sunken ships, treasures and other junk to sell. Sometimes getting hired by others to find something under the water. On especially long distance trips she would also stop by any local beaches for a break, but also she would search for any clues as to what happened to her family. Koral also takes on babysitting jobs around the village as she enjoys looking after children. She’s also something of the unofficial bouncer at the local bar, helping kick out any rowdy sailors or pirates causing trouble.

Family: Breaker the Ocra (Husband = Missing), Raft the Orca (Son = Missing), Posey the Orca (Daughter = Missing)

Friends/Allies: Everyone in Ice Wreck Village

    Enemies: Eggman Empire, Pirates

Home: Koral now lives in Ice Wreck Village, a small port town in Holoska, named after a large ship’s graveyard off the coast. The village thrives on visiting sailors, a Salvage operation and a few fishing communities. On occasion a few ship wrecks would float into the bay due to the currents and eventually wind up at the graveyard. Though these wrecks can cause problems especially when sailors are trying to dock at the port, the villagers have learned how to deal with such situations. Despite the cold climate and the dreariness the Ship Graveyard, there is a warmth in the town as the villagers are welcoming, kind, friendly yet hardy.

Fears and Flaws: Koral slow and not very agile on land due to her large and heavy tail, forcing her to stand her ground in one spot when fighting, making her an easy target. She doesn’t have this issue in water.

Being an aquatic mammal, while she can stay under water for a tremendous amount of time, she does eventually need to come up for air. Also spending too much time on land especially in dry situations will dry out her skin and dehydrate her quickly.

Koral admittedly enjoys getting attention, whether it be for her heroic deeds, feats of strength, her cooking, or even from admirers on the beaches she visits. While she is mature and wise enough to not act like a glory hog, or feel entitlement when not getting attention, she does tend to get very lonely when not included in things. Plus she struggles with the guilt of potentially cheating on her missing husband Breaker if he’s even still alive, as she craves intimacy with others.

Her biggest fear though is never learning what happened to her family, be they alive, dead, captured, missing with amnesia, etc. She just wants to know so she can either be reunited with them, or finally grieve and get closure. While she has made many friends and is a local hero, it can't fill the hole in her heart where Breaker and the kids use to be.

Creator’s Notes: Normally I don’t bother with adoptable characters. If I wanted a certain species for a character, I should try and come up with one myself. However I made the exception for Koral as her design looked very good to me, I’ve been considering coming up with a new aquatic Mobian since seeing Aquaman (haven’t made one since Joan the Frog) but haven’t decided what species to go for, plus I’m a sucker for navy blue colours. While initially I thought her large bulky tail was a bit odd and considered slimming it down if I won her, but over time it grew on me and I decided to make it part of her character. While coming up with a back story for her I initially considered making her a villain and play on the “Killer Whale” trope, but chose not to as I felt I couldn’t think of anything good that I haven’t already done with previous villains. So instead I went for a neutral/hero character and decided to make her separate from my other characters, no relationships with Team Eclipse or their allies so it would free her up for possible RPs with other people and be a fresh start for me. I really like water benders so I wanted to have Koral have a power set like that, though a bit more limited to help focus on her brute strength, especially with her large tail, and make her different from my Polar Bear Villain Berg who already has ice powers. A friend recommended I read up on actual Orcas to get ideas for Koral’s profile, personality and abilities, and it was a huge help as it helped me come up with Koral’s social personality, and reading up on the story of the sad story of a real life Orca named Luna who was separated from his family and grew attached to humans and boats, craving attention helped me think of Koral’s own tragic separation from her family and trying to fill the void by making friends with others. As for her family and her age, initially I was going to have her be younger and be separated from her parents, but felt that has been done quite a lot, so I decided to make her a parent, make her a bit older and add motherly aspects to her personality as well as a feeling of guilt if she ever starts a relationship (or more) with others while not knowing if her husband is alive or not.
