Truth and Ideals
I remember hearing from my friend about a ROM download for a Pokémon Black game fairly recently.
She told me the site via email and I downloaded it eagerly.
Oddly enough it wasn't a real Black game- the title screen came up with both Reshiram and Zekrom.
Pokémon: Truth and Ideals
Of course this immediately interested me, I inquired to my friend about it but she refused to answer her email again- I even tried her cellphone but she wouldn't pick up.
Oh well, I decided I would play anyways.
I made my way through a fairly normal Routine, but instead of the Female and Male trainers the professor popped up and there were three of the Female player when I clicked female.
The professor smiled and a text box popped up.
"Do you follow Truth or Ideals?"
This made me stop and actually think- Truth or Ideals... It was a hard decision.
Remembering the third girl I hovered over each one in order.
The first one had a text box. "Truth is the only way..."
The second had a text box. "Ideals are the only way..."
The third had a text box. "Both Truth and Ideals... they each need the other..."
I clicked the third trainer, finding her middle ground to be reasonable.
My trainer was given the name "Medi" automatically and then the game continued normally.
I beat a few trainers and made my way and in about a few days time I had gotten to N's castle.
I walked up to N with determination and he began his usual speech.
Once he had finished he came near my trainer.
"But you... You have accepted both... how can this be... How could you possibly defeat me without a legendary?"
I watched my sprite jump back as suddenly a strange Dragon came from the floor.
An exclamation appeared above N's head.
"w-what? How can this be... is this Kyurem...? The third dragon who dwells between?"
I clicked and waited a response.
"... I see. You too... dwell between both... come. Let me show you... how this fight started..."
I gasped as N released a Celebi and it time travelled.
When the screen refocused we were in a strange city that was half black and half white. People walked by us- some white, and some black.
My own sprite was Grey, which interested me.
I turned to N and he spoke.
"Go... to the centre of this city..."
I began to walk, noting that each colour of person stayed on their side of the city. A few who were walking stopped and turned my way before continuing on their paths.
I walked for a while and then came to the sprite of a girl who was the same shade of Grey as I was.
I noted a male sprite on each side of her- one black and one white.
A little ways in front of them a strange Pokémon stood.
I walked to the first male on the black side of the city.
"Ideals... they are the only thing we need... for with truth our Ideals are stained"
I walked to the man on the white side of the city.
"Truth... is the only thing we need... for with ideals the truth is clouded."
I moved towards the strange Pokémon as it quivered.
The strange Pokémon is shivering with pain...
I felt my heart go out to the Pokémon and I stared at it for a moment. I can't possibly describe it as anything other than a mixture of Reshiram and Zekrom.
I then turned to the strange Grey coloured girl.
"Truth and Ideals... they go hand-in-hand... one can't be without the other... look how my brothers make this poor Pokémon suffer with their quarrels...I fear for it..."
I went to the strange Pokémon again.
The strange Pokémon cried out in pain!
I watched as the two brothers quarreled again, and the Pokémon's sprite began to tremble.
The girl ran to the Pokémon and then turned to her brothers.
"Stop this! Stop it! Your hurting your friend with your quarrels!"
Suddenly the screen flashed black and then three Pokémon stood instead of one- Reshiram, Zekrom, and Kyurem. Each was covered in blood and looked like they were in pain.
The two brothers each went to their respective Pokémon and a battle started.
Truth challenged Ideals to a battle!
Truth sent out Reshiram!
Ideals sent out Zekrom!
Kyurem cried out for peace! ...but it was ignored...
I watched as Truth and Ideals battled, and finally ended in a stalemate- each had one HP left.
Kyurem cried out for peace! ...but it was ignored...
Kyurem became frustrated!
Kyurem wants to know why you have hurt him!
Truth Ignored Kyurem!
Ideals ignored Kyurem!
Sister Devi cries for peace!
Kyurem cries for peace!
Kyurem was ignored...
Sister Devi was ignored...
Suddenly the screen flashed again and N came from behind.
"Do you see now? Truth... and Ideals... they are destined to always be brought to battle with each other until one gives up. But that is the beauty of it... neither of them will ever give up... a belief cannot be ignored. To ignore your beliefs would be to tear yourself apart as Reshiram and Zekrom once did. Each became one-sided while their remaining agreements turned into Kyurem.
You resonated with Kyurem- believing that Truth and Ideals must go hand-in-hand... you shunned Kyurems brothers, and instead chose him... but you are also a hypocrite. By choosing Kyurem you make people believe you will listen and accept their beliefs. Yet you come to stop me from doing what I believe without question."
I watched as the screen flickered black and Celebi time travelled again.
We arrived back at N's castle but this time the seven sages were there along with Ghestis.
"good Job N. We finally captured her and all the others who didn't release their Pokémon. We're in control now- make her release her Pokémon"
N came towards my trainer and I began to try to get away but was stopped by Ghestis.
"foolish girl. Release your Pokémon- you have no other choice."
N suddenly seemed to drag my character backwards and my Pokémon appeared on a cut screen.
"Smugleaf sadly left!"
"Audino sadly left!"
"Kyurem sadly left!"
N kept holding my character as Ghestis came forward with something in his hand.
"N... hold her still. We can't have her interfering again now can we?"
I noticed the sprite of the trainer begin to struggle as Ghestis came closer.
Team plasma leader Ghestis raised his knife!
Trainer Medi struggled with all of her strength!
Team plasma leader Ghestis killed trainer Medi!
I watched as a cutscreen showed an amazingly realistic scene- obviously some real thought went into this.
Ghestis moved aside and revealed a shocked N holding the female trainer up.
Her eyes were partially rolled back in her head, her mouth slightly open, and blood dripping from the corner.
A large wound on her chest slowly bled making her shirt a light crimson.
It closed up on N's shocked face and the theme from his room began to play, but much slower than usual.
N's mouth was agape in surprise and his eyes wide with horror.
A tear suddenly rolled down his cheek and Ghestis appeared behind him, a bloody knife up in the air towards N's back.
A text box appeared as the screen darkened.
"Goodbye N. You were an excellent pawn for our Ideal world!"
The screen flashed from black to N's face- it was distorted horribly in pain, and his eyes were wide with tears streaming from them.
His mouth trembled speechlessly and his eyelids began to close.
The screen faded to black again for a few minutes.
Just when I thought the game was over it faded back in to N and the trainer.
Both of them had their eyes closed and were in a semi fetal position.
N's head was across from the Trainers feet.
The screen panned up and zoomed out before fading slightly.
The screen changed once more, this time into a flurry of leaves and one of the forests from the game.
The male trainer was standing with his back turned towards the screen
"...Truth... Ideals... what do they really mean? And why do people die for them?"
The screen blacked out for a moment and when it came back up the file for the ROM was gone. The only traces of this game ever happening are my memories- somehow even my E-mails to my friend were deleted, and she won't talk about the game with me anymore.
But every now and then I think about it.
