Description
This is my second try at leather tooling. I compiled the parts of the gryphon from several different photos of lions, eagles, and hawks, and then drew the final gryphon twice in my sketchbook before drawing it lightly onto the leather. Then I drew it in deeper with the stylus and began picking out the basic depths with the spoon-headed tool. I then stippled the area directly around the gryphon to make it slightly raised off the surface of the leather. Then I used the stylus again to pick out details and enhance features. A final once-over with the spoon-headed tool to re-define the different depths of muscles and such in the image completed the process.
I don't quite dare to dye this one; I'm too happy with it to risk ruining it. But I might make a duplicate and try dying it - I want to pick out the bars on the feathers in dark brown and white, as well as the eyes, and I'd like to put in a general colour scheme for the rest of the gryphon. I don't think I'll go with the usual copper-and-brown gryphon...I might do a lighter sandy-white lion-coat and white/dark brown feathers like on a Kenyan Martial Eagle.
Any tips or tricks from experienced leatherworkers would be appreciated
Be gentle; it's only my second try.

I could agree with Beadmask! For the 2nd try (not sure if you've created more...but w/e) it's amazing!
