He woke up in a dark place.  At first he thought he was in his own bed, but then realized that the pillow he was used to was much softer than the ground he was currently laying on.    All at once the world was flooded with light, as if everything around him had burst into flames.   He jumped to his feet and staggered a bit, flailing his arms in a windmill fashion as if to defend himself from the brightness.  As his eyes adjusted he could see he was deep in an equatorial forest.    He looked about himself and noticed that every tree within his sight had a noose hanging from one of its branches.
