Beleg doing a dance in his red shoes because Tolkien obviously envisioned his elves wearing red poulaines. I like to imagine him in happier times on the north marches before the whole tragedy with Turin ensued.

I love this, I agree it's great to see him happy. He has been one of my favourites for ages. And perhaps the shoes were not meant for work where camouflage might be better. Let's say they are festival shoes. The whole outfit looks fancy.
This is the first time I heard about Tolkien's picture of Beleg, and I have been a fan for a long time. We learn all the time.
