Alecti Ward, The Moon's Chosen

Alecti was a vampire who by all rights, should never have become the monster he is now. As a child, his body was plagued with a chronic malady that took many lives of other children of Purgareth. While he survived, his body did not emerge unscathed, as the malicious disease claimed one his arms. Later years were just as callous. Body in tatters, his mind on the brink and his family unable to care for him, Alecti was left to die in the Woods of the Entombed. That night the moon hung high, and as he laid in the brush ready to face death, to end the pain of his life, he heard a voice. " Do you wish to die, little one? To embrace the abyss? To forfeit all your potential?" An almost soothing breeze swept the landscape. "Oh yes, I see great things in you. And I can give them to you. But you must give me something in return little one." Alecti, barely able to produce more than a whisper replied, "What do you ask of me?" "Everything." Knowing with certainty that fate brought him to this moment, all the suffering, all the loss, Alecti opened his mouth to utter a single predestined word. "Yes."
