What's the Story?
NINA'S WORLD is the story of 6-year-old Nina (voiced by Isabella Farrier), an imaginative and outgoing kid who lives with her Mami (Michele Lepe), Papi, and Abuelita (Rita Moreno) in a bustling, multicultural community. Accompanied by her best friend, a stuffie named Star who comes to life when he and Nina are alone, Nina explores her surroundings, makes friends, and learns a lot about growing up in the process.
Is It Any Good?
This lively show celebrates family, friendship, and diversity through inclusive content that incorporates English, Spanish, and even some American Sign Language. Nina's three-generational household reflects the changing American family dynamic, and her doting grandmother is an especially strong influence on her connection to her Latino roots. Simple elements such as her serving traditional meals and using Spanish phrases expose kids to this culture in a natural way. A word of advice, though: Not all the Spanish dialogue is clearly translated in conversation, leaving your kids (and possibly you) to wager your best guess at what's being said (if you don't speak Spanish).
Even so, Nina's World's best aspect is its endearing titular star, who will delight youngsters who tune in for her adventures. She's refreshingly imperfect, and even though her mistakes typically are the result of her eagerness to please those around her, she still has to acknowledge when she's wrong and fix the situation. Finally, kids who are familiar with The Good Night Show will especially like how this younger, animated version of Nina ends each day with a soothing bedtime routine.
