What's the Story?
Radar (Robert Stoltenberg) is a VW Bug Police Car. During a power outage in the tiny village he patrols, he is struck with electricity by an errant power line after rescuing the village and becomes an electric car. While playing with his friend Dottie the Otter (Pernille Sorensen), Radar gets stuck in the river, but manages to escape as the river begins to mysteriously dry up. Investigating further, Radar discovers that two evil brothers are behind the drying river as they seek to privatize the village's water supply. Meanwhile, the village is too distracted with the arrival of their country's princess to notice the dried up water and the hotter temperatures. Radar must stop the brothers' wicked plans, and convince his fellow police officers and citizens that the water must remain in public hands.
Is It Any Good?
While there are better animated features that are pro-environment, POLICE PATROL is an enjoyable computer-animated movie best for younger kids. The shrillness of the characters' voices as well as the simplicity of the story will be a bit much for older kids and parents, to say nothing of those parents who don't subscribe to the views and opinions conveyed in the movie.
Nonetheless, younger kids will enjoy this story of one electric police car's fight against those who seek to privatize and destroy the water supply of a quaint village. For parents concerned about climate change and responsible water management, this movie should inspire edifying discussion with their children about the environmental hazards we face.
