About Joly Herman

A freelance writer with an educational background, Joly has been working in the media industry since the dawn of the internet era. She holds an M.F.A. in Creative Writing from the University of Michigan and is trained as a Montessori primary educator, having taught in classrooms in San Francisco, Kansas City, and Düsseldorf, Germany. Joly has been writing TV, movie, and book reviews for Common Sense Media since 2004. An advocate for healthy families, Joly founded "Solo Parent Magazine" in 2014 as a resource for parents raising kids in non-traditional family environments. She enjoys watching KDramas, political thrillers, and campy comedies like “Galaxy Quest” and “Anchorman.” When time allows, Joly’s traveling, trying new food, making art, and brushing up on her German.
