Really a great website

Look, I’m gonna be honest. If your kid is trying to find profanity, their gonna find it whether their on social media or not. When getting Tumblr you get to pick some things that you like and those topics come up on your dashboard, as well as things you like. If your kid is trying to find profanity, yes, they will find it, but if their not it’s is a PERFECTLY fine website. People can dm you but it’s easy to block people and you’ll never see them again, and they won’t see you! There are wonderful people on Tumblr who are kind and helpful. It’s got some swearing and innuendos, but if your kid is mature and they are trying to stay away from profanity these things shouldn’t be a problem. I highly recommend.

Great as long as you have esafety

Sure, you can get some dodgy stuff on tumblr, but in all honesty it’s hardly different from any other social media in that aspect. The thing that is great about tumblr is that it’s easy to find your ‘niche’ as such. My dash basically consists of gay rights and fandoms (as well as cats) because that’s what I’m actually interested in. Definitely not for younger children, but as long as your kid knows how to be esafe etc then they should be fine! Keep in mind that it’s not for everyone, but I personally love this site.

Good, but you have to know about the "stuff"

Yes I know... Its for 13+.. If you child is mature, and knows about "it", then its fine. Yes, there's profanity, but its not that bad. Its your choice tho, so yea.

awesome website!!!

People are saying there's bots trying to get you to 18+ websites but I don't see any. I love tumblr and my page is mostly Taylor Swift stuff, dissing Scooter Braun and Kanye and stand with Ukraine stuff. There's swearing but I'm fine with it- I swear. I LOVE Tumblr!

Depends on the kid.

The website is fun and a great way to share and look at content including fan content. Unfortunately there are a few major cons to this website in 2021. Explicit content had been banned a while back however if you make an account you are going to be contacted by an explicit bot trying to lead users to 18+ websites. It's not Tumblr's fault the bots are there but they are there. Please educate your child about these bots and what to do if you want them on this website along with typical social media safty.

Site can be fun and uplifting if it's used well, if not used well, it can groom you into harmful behavior

Avoid EVERY political blog, blogs about gender and sexuality, blogs with angry material, and you'll be good! I follow the Metropolitan museum of art and history blogs, as well as other historical blogs. It has given me a place to compile my interests and learn things about history, art, and music, trains, and old frigates that I like that I would not have found otherwise. However, I have a freind who has been turned into an angry and hostile person from political propaganda spread on this site. It's a good place to learn how to filter the things you find unhealthy, and gain self respect. It's entirely possible to have a fun and healthy experience on this site, just stay away from the politics.

Tumblr destroyed itself

Tumblr has been destroying itself. It tries to fix problems, yet only makes things worse. First of all, let’s start with the NSFW ban. Sure, it sounds like a good idea, until you see how badly it works in practice. The algorithm is messed up. They have been flagging toast, babies, Star Wars, dance routines from cable TV, and a drawing of two fully clothed people kissing. Not to mention that they even flagged their own post that explained the ban. On top of that, people’s entire blogs are being wiped out, even if they aren’t porn blogs! The system is so faulty, someone got friended by more porn blogs in three days than five years - after the ban. Good job weeding them out Tumblr. Secondly, they are shadowbanning fandom artists. People’s artwork is disappearing, even if it is SFW. Tumblr doesn’t want fandom material on the site anymore, and artists are being punished by becoming invisible. They say SFW is allowed, but that’s a lie. Why do this if it is? Obviously they aren’t telling us the full truth. All in all, Tumblr is imploding on itself. They say “Tumblr is a place to express yourself, discover yourself, and bond over the stuff you love.” That is a lie. We have lost our voice. We ask them to get rid of porn bots? They give us a faulty algorithm that does more harm than good. We get told we can bond over stuff we love, and yet fandoms are being removed. This site is not worth being on.

Horrible website, at least from my experience

I used to be an avid user of Tumblr, and I used to believe that it was one of the greatest sites on the internet, a place where you could share pictures and interests with other people. Well, after a few months I finally found the more horrid side of Tumblr. First off, it's very easy to find porn without the safety filter on, and even with it on, porn still sometimes bypasses it, but I've only had it happen once. Second, if you say one little thing that someone doesn't agree with, prepare for trouble. I was called a bigoted racist for accidentially drawing a fan character's skin tone a bit too light, and even though I apologized I still got hate from a lot of people. Third, this website is filled with some of the worst topics and people you can ever encounter. From individuals who support horrible things such as anorexia, drug abuse, shoplifting, and even PEDOPHILIA to some of the most mind-numbingly offensive content that would make even Hitler shudder in fear. Of course, this website does have its pros for older users, such as the fact that you can connect with other people that share the same interests that you do and share pictures, videos, gifs, and stories, but I personally don't think Tumblr is worth the risk. Personally, even though I hate them very much, I would suggest social networking websites like Instagram, Snapchat, and Twitter over this nonsense. If you like the aspect of sharing fandoms, then websites and apps like Wattpad and Amino provide that for you. Otherwise, do me a favor and never visit this website.

Seems good at first but misleading

I was a member of this site for roughly 3 years, since I was 14 and recently deleted my account. People are often worried about the hipster aspect of tumblr (the selfies, etc that teens post) and I'm sure that's a concern, I just never frequented that part. I was in the fandom/nerdy area which is very dominate. At first tumblr seems great. Lots of other people that love books, tv (mostly tv) as well as lots of social activist. But tumblr loves to 'ship' people (pairing two characters(and sometimes actors) together romantically) which is fine, in theory. But tumblr will ship ANYONE. There is a perverted community on there. Example; there is a anime, Fullmetal Alchemist that I would recommend and it's age appropriate, but the community...about half of them 'ship' Roy, a 30 something year old and Ed, a fifteen year old. This is not uncommon. Eventually, this will mess with your head. Every time I see two people interacting on screen, or in a book, I will think 'maybe I ship them...' even though I don't. And it's weird to know that somewhere, someplace, someone is shipping them, and there is at least one fanfiction written for every combination of two people. It's not a healthy place, even if you try to avoid the weirdness-- towards the end of my time there I was mostly following Doctor Who blogs that reblogged pretty graphics and edits yet I still encountered stuff that was inappropriate. Also, people tend to get very attached on there to online friends and rely on them more than people in real life. This can be damaging if they already have a strained relationship with family, friends or just don't want to bother their family if their parents are busy, already under stress, etc. Especially if they have a mental illness. People post often about wanting to commit suicide and though people then message them saying no, don't do that, you're awesome, etc, I still think it's a damaging environment because they are saying thos online, not to someone in person. Also, there are self-harm blogs, and I'm guessing there are ones with photos, etc. Not to mention that browsing the tags is dangerous. Even with safe mode on numerous inappropriate images come up. Another example of this community is the fact that when Yahoo bought it they said they were going to make it more family friendly. Tumblr went into a uproar. All in all? Stay off tumblr. It's intriguing and initially seems great. But it'll mess up your mind, especially if you have a mental illness, from depression to OCD.

Similar to pintrest but with more text posts and some community interaction. Im on a 17- account and i haven't seen any 'indecent content' on it. Like YouTube they do have a report feature I think. I follow fandoms mostly. Great for sharing stuff like art, ideas, pictures, etc. Very simple and intuitive design involving posts and interaction, although the fyp/dashboard/feed is kind of a mess. Some of the community can be stupid and toxic, but its not overwelmingly common in my experience.
