Surprisingly good
I really enjoyed watching this movie with my 9yo and 7 yo daughters plus 8yo niece and 11yo nephew. The main characters were all really likeable and there were a likeable bunch of adult actors I recognised. The tween love interest was smart, caring, ambitious and interesting (not just pretty).
I didn't see the sixth sense plot twist coming, but felt it added to the story line and character depth. Understandably, this might be difficult to watch for kids that have lost loved ones so good to keep that in mind.
I loved the style of bringing the drawings to life and mixing the reality with imagination. Was really well done.
There were a few moments could have done without, like the "hot" stepmom mention, and the step dad chasing after the waitress but overall they kept everything very PG. I was uncomfortable with the young girl taking the car for a joyride, but its not enough to put me off the movie.
It's hard to find movies that aren't a complete bore to watch with the kids, so this was a winner in my book.
Awesome soundtrack, sweet and wholesome light romance, funny but not too gross potty and slapstick humor, and not really any swearing.
Would recommend and all four of the kids really enjoyed it :)

Not for young ones at all!
I am really shocked that the CSM and the majority think this movie is "perfect for sharing with the kids" and appropriate for 7 year olds. Usually CSM seems super cautious in their ratings and we mentally add a couple years onto their age recommendation, but absolutely regretted putting this on to watch with our kids.
First up, Luke's aunt and uncle (his effect parents) are murdered in a horrible fire. There is constant gun shoot outs (albiet no blood or gore). Darth Vader is quite scary. One of the characters cuts a guy's arm off. The main characters are almost crushed in a pit.
My 8yo left the room and stopped watching a quarter way in, and we barely toughed it out to the end with our second child.
And when all that stuff isn't happening, the story line is incredibly slow and all political talk. I don't understand how younger kids can even follow the story line at all.
I just dont see how this is a movie good for kids at all.
