Perfect For Open Minded Families
This show has encouraged my girls to be strong in a range of ways. It made the focus of a girl/woman’s tale more than romance it showed how complicated friendships can be and how to deal with growth, grief and leadership.
There are same sex romantic relationships that were an excellent conversation starter with my daughters giving me an opportunity to normalize romance of all types. The show never outright discusses sexuality, so I’m confused by some of the other reviews? The show also offers a nice range of diversity which all is pretty ambiguous but it again is nice to be able to normalize all types of bodies.

Creative and Fun
First I really appreciate this shows softer colors and sounds. So many cartoons are obnoxious and flashy and the difference in this show was something my whole family noticed and appreciated.
It was a bit creepy at times but noting that was upsetting to my five year old as we sat together watching. I would recommend watching with younger, more sensitive children. It was fun adventure with truly unique stories.

Non consensual intimacy
I was watching this movie for the first time with my kids and there were the standard teachable moments in older movies...until they get to the night before the dance and the Bully character pushes his way into car and forces himself into a you h girl as she says no repeatedly and calls for help. It was very disturbing for my children and myself. There was allusion to this kind of behavior earlier in the movie when the same bully tries to pick up the same girl and she says “I’m not that kind of girl” and he responds with “maybe you are and you just don’t know It yet”.
Around this part in the movie there was also an instance of a White character calling a Black man a “coon” and suggesting he was “addicted to refer”
We really enjoyed the movie outside these moments but we won’t be watching again.
Also there is a fair amount of swearing for families who limit that.
