Joker is back in another bleak and depressing drama. Violence/horror 3/5 The violence in this is infrequent and when it happens it is mostly in fantasy scenes. A judge is beaten to death with a large hammer, there are occasional shootings resulting in spurts of blood including a man shooting himself in the head. There are also bloody stabbings. Swearing 4/5 Fairly frequent uses of f**k and s**t. Sex 3/5 A brief non-graphic sex scene and some verbal sex references. Drugs/Alcohol/Tobacco 3/5 Characters constantly smoke cigarettes. Other issues The film frequently talks about mental health and suicide (quite badly in my opinion). There are also other themes such as police brutality. Overall, the film frequently refers to mental health issues and suicide and there are occasional scenes of violence.

Alien: Romulus is the newest entry into the Alien franchise and, in my opinion, it fits right in next to the first two (but it's not as good as them). Violence/horror 4/5 While there is no doubt that Romulus contains some shocking gore, the violence happens infrequently enough that there is time to breathe between characters getting picked off. If you are familiar with the Alien series then you will probably have a good idea about how some of these deaths will go (creatures bursting out of chests, acid blood melting skin down to the bone etc.). On the tension side, Romulus is relentless once it passes the 20 minute mark. Sequence after sequence will have you clenching your arm rests. The movie contains some of the most effective jump scares of the year, one towards the end particularly comes to mind. Swearing 4/5 The film contains frequent use of f**k and other language including s**t. Sex 2/5 There are some brief verbal references to sex but nothing graphic. Drugs/Alcohol/Tobacco 2/5 Teenage characters can be seen smoking cigarettes early in the movie. Other issues There are brief references to some of the characters having dead parents. A young pregnant comes into danger which could upset some people. Overall, I believe that Alien: Romulus is appropriate for teenagers aged 15 and older because of frequent scenes of horror, occasional gory violence and strong bad language.

First of all, I think something important to keep in mind is that Civil War is not a war movie. It focuses on a group of journalists who want to capture the war on camera and the bond between them. I mention this because it might make the violence in the movie much more impactful if we know and like most of these characters. Violence/horror 4/5 Most of the violence in this is contained to shootings in loud and relatively fast action sequences. There are a few stronger moments that stood out such as characters being forced to kneel next to a mass grave full of bodies and brief sight of a man being set on fire. There are loud gunshots during the action scenes that could lead to a few jump scares. Swearing 4/5 Quite a few uses of f**k. Other terms include s**t and bastard. It might seem like a lot but it's nothing that a teenager hasn't heard before. Sex 3/5 There is only one thing of note here when a man crudely suggests he has an erection. This scene is quick and nothing is dwelt on. Drugs/Alcohol/Tobacco 2/5 It is implied that characters are smoking a cannabis joint in a brief scene with no dialogue. Other issues There is a scene where characters dangerously climb between moving cars for fun. The film deals with the topic of PTSD in a way that could trigger some people. There are scenes of discrimination where a clearly unlikable man asks people what "kind" of Americans they are. Overall, I would say Civil War is appropriate for ages 15 and up. This is due to loud and scary action scenes and cursing.

Poor Things has to be up there with Fight Club as one of the most misunderstood films of all time. Yes, the film has lots of sex in it, but it is used as a vehicle to tell the story of a woman who is wronged and abused by the different types of men in her life. I am genuinely appalled by how many people on this website can't seem to understand basic storytelling. Violence/horror 4/5 The film takes place in a fantasy context so much of the violence is stylised and exaggerated. There is sight of a scientist pulling a dead woman's brain out of her body and other scenes include shootings. Swearing 4/5 The film contains occasional use of the word c**t and f**k. The r word is used to describe a woman. Sex 5/5 Poor Things has become pretty famous for it's depiction of sex. There are frequent sex scenes with full nudity from both men and women. Alcohol/Drugs/Tobacco 2/5 A woman passes out after drinking a whole bottle of alcohol. Other issues The male characters in the film use sex to take advantage of a woman with the brain of a baby. Other reviews on this website seem to have missed that this is one of the main themes of the movie and it ends reassuringly with the protagonist becoming her own person. Overall, I think that Poor Things is suitable for an audience of 16 and above because it has graphic depictions of sex but also a great story and absolutely stunning visuals. One of the most fun movies of the year.

Nope is probably the best film of the 2020's so far. Just pure fun with some great scares. Violence/horror 4/5 Some moments of violence such as a man being beaten to death by a chimpanzee and a man is killed when a coin falls into his eye, there is sight of his injury. There are a few very effective scenes of horror which result in jump scares. Swearing 4/5 Fairly frequent use of f**k but it's nothing that a 14 year old hasn't heard before. Sex 2/5 A character says that she "f**ks" her therapist on occasion. Drugs/Alcohol/Tobacco 2/5 There is a brief reference to weed and characters drink beer. Other issues there are scenes of grief when characters remember their father who is dead. Overall, while it can get scary, Nope relies more on its action and spectacle to keep its audience entertained.

The fifth entry into the Scream franchise has been updated for a new audience. While older fans might not like it as much as the originals, I think it's great. Violence 4/5 Lots of people are stabbed resulting in spurts of blood and gory images. The most violent part is probably the opening scene which features a brutal attack on a teenager such as her getting her leg broken and getting stabbed through the hand. Another standout moment comes near the end where a man is stabbed through the cheeks. While there are scary moments and lots of jump scares, the tone is balanced through comedy. Swearing 4/5 Frequent use of f**k and s**t. Some milder terms such as b***h. Sex 2/5 Teenage characters kiss and briefly talk about sex. Drugs/Alcohol/Tobacco 2/5 A teen character says she is "gonna smoke some weed" but that's it. Other issues It is explained that the main characters are from a broken family which could be upsetting for some people. Overall, I think that Scream is fine for teenage horror fans of 15 and over.
