Needs better writing.
The first episode has a strong plot, and the character interactions are mostly engaging. However, some of the flaws of the first episode include cringey, unfunny jokes as well as choppy pacing. And from the first episode alone, this show is better than Ms. Marvel. Despite this, one thing that Ms. Marvel does right that She-Hulk does not is respecting characters WITHOUT digging at those who may be different. For example, Ms. Marvel covers a lot on culture and religion without belittling other cultures and religion. Meanwhile, She-Hulk’s pilot episode has a “women are better than men, and as a result, should belittle and talk down to men” vibe. Speaking as a WOC myself, I’m all for strong female leads, and I think more of them should exist on screen. I support diversity all the way, and I hate it whenever people use the term “woke” for anything with POC. However, Jennifer keeps mentioning how she’s better than the Hulk and has to continually remind Bruce that she’s a woman. She shouldn’t automatically be better BECAUSE she’s a woman. She should be a fleshed out character WHILE being a woman. I hope she learns to be humble throughout the course of the series, because if she’s going to constantly bring up the fact that she’s a woman, then I don’t think this show’s worth it. It’ll make her an unlikable character in the long run. That’s my main issue with the first episode. If the writers really wanted to create a strong female character with a passion for law, they should’ve looked at Elle Woods from Legally Blonde. She doesn’t think she’s better because she’s a female, doesn’t dig at men for their gender, and doesn’t have a defensive attitude.

I really wanted to like this show. I can’t.
I’m 18, so one would think that I would like a show about a teenage girl. I remember before the show even premiered, people were hating on it assuming it would be bad. I don’t like judging TV shows before their premieres; I would rather actually watch shows to form my own opinions. However, when I watched the first two episodes of Ms. Marvel on the days they came out, I found the episodes to be incredibly boring and slow-paced. The episodes did not have any charm or heart, and they had cringey and cheesy moments as well. I’ve heard many people online say things like “Teenagers are supposed to be cringey. Let them be teenagers exploring their creative growth.” While I do agree with this, the show also suffers from cliché tropes and plays on stereotypes at times, which annoys me, because I would rather see new or fresh ideas when it comes to storylines and characters. I know what it’s like to be teenager, and this show tries too hard at showing “teenagers doing teenage things.” The writers need to understand how teenagers really act, because the show’s portrayal of them is inaccurate. In addition to that, a majority of the characters in Ms. Marvel (even some of the adults) are annoying and unlikable, including Kamala Khan, who is the protagonist of the show. Although I found myself rooting for her in the second episode, I think overall, she is irritating, whiny, selfish, and childish. I really want her to be a more compelling character, but based on my viewing of the first two episodes, her character does not have any depth. I have not yet watched the other episodes that have come out, so it’s possible that her character was fleshed out in those episodes. I will say, I do have massive respect for Iman Vellani, considering that she is not just a Marvel fangirl, but also a new actress. Ms. Marvel is her onscreen debut, and I am proud of her for landing the role of an MCU character and being a part of such a large cinematic universe. I hope she gets involved in more projects in the future. There are also a few good things I do want to point out about this show. Although I am not Muslim, I do appreciate the fact that Muslim culture is truthfully depicted here. I once wrote an essay for a class about the way Muslims are perceived in the United States and how that affects their experience in the U.S., with research from readings and videos that the class went over. That class even briefly talked about Kamala Khan (from the comics) as well. This show actually brought up a few of the key points I had written in that essay, which impressed me. I somewhat like the visuals and editing of the show; however, there was terrible CGI in the second episode whenever Kamala was using her powers. But the editing of the surrounding environment to display sent text messages was appealing, and the overall look of the show, such as the drawings and animations, is unique and clever. I do plan on watching the rest of the episodes in the future, in hopes that the show will be more engaging as well as to keep up with the continuity of Phase 4 of the MCU. However, I don’t think I’ll enjoy those episodes very much. I would also like to add that I do actually enjoy the Captain Marvel movie despite all of the hate that it got, but since Ms. Marvel may directly affect The Marvels due to the underwhelming introduction of Kamala Khan, I am not sure if the film would even be interesting at all. In short, I do think Ms. Marvel is a lighthearted show, but it’s only aimed at girls who are 12 and younger. It’s a show I would maybe recommend for them, but not for anyone who’s 13 or above.

I thought it was okay. *Spoiler warning!*
Compared with the previous MCU movie that came out (Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness), Thor: Love and Thunder has better pacing and a lot less gore. However, I do not think Thor: Love and Thunder is better than that film. I am upset that scenes with the Grandmaster were cut from Thor: Love and Thunder’s theatrical release, and I find it strange that the Guardians of the Galaxy were on a lot of promotional material but hardly get any screen time in this film. I think this film overall is fairly entertaining, has a good plot, and has a reasonable amount of tension. I love that it explores love and loss, and I love how unsettling the villain is. However, the action sequences could have been better, and Korg should’ve been a more round character. The comedy was a bit overdone as well.

LOVING IT SO FAR
This is a really good show and unlike anything that we’ve seen before in the MCU. There’s a lot of mystery, suspense, and thriller. There’s also the confusion that both the audience and Steven feels. The locations and context of the scenes keep suddenly changing, which I know is intentional. There is so much going on, and it keeps you engaged. I have to admit, I think this show should’ve started off with a two-episode premiere. It might be one of the better Marvel Disney+ shows.

Unique *MINOR SPOILERS*
I watched the English dubbed version (still with English subtitles because I always have subtitles on), and no, the mouths moving out of sync was not distracting for me. This show is overall a very quick and easy watch; it was worth my time. It includes excellent writing, above average cinematography, and breathtaking shots of the snow. Parallels is a fun, light-hearted adventure that is well-done and easy to understand. I really enjoyed its twists and turns, and I thank it for not having a convoluted storyline. This show has a unique concept in my opinion. Basically, one mysterious event at a birthday party sends a group of friends into parallel universes. The science that goes into the event is only lightly touched upon; the main plot of the series is how these friends stick together even when faced with confusion. The actors and actresses all have amazing chemistry, and their characters are believable and likable. The drama and motivations attached to the characters make them feel realistic and authentic, which contributes to their fantastic character development. With its great ending, Parallels doesn’t need a second season, though I do wish the show covered more on what happened with Hugo and Poe (the boy and the dog who disappeared in 2011).

One of the better MCU movies
I strongly recommend watching WandaVision before going into this film. This movie is like a WandaVision sequel, and some parts of the movie may be confusing for those who have not seen that series. But anyway, this is a really great movie! It’s action-packed and filled with wonderful and unexpected surprises. I feel that it was too short; I wish it was longer.

Better than what critics are saying
I’m not sure why this is getting a lot of bad reviews. It’s certainly not as bad as critics think it is. It’s not a perfect movie but it’s not the worst either. I did think that the film had weird and confusing camera work. The storyline and villain were also very predictable; however, they were still interesting. I thought the special effects were epic, but at times, overdone. Still, I liked that there were no unnecessary action scenes, and I felt that all of them were perfectly placed. The acting was excellent for the most part, and I felt connected to the characters. Overall, Morbius is enjoyable and entertaining enough to watch; it didn’t bore me and it brought a lot of tension. While I do wish that the movie explored its horror element more, it was still eye-grabbing.
