why do you want to see this?
Before taking your children to see this (or really any) movie, you should ask yourself, why do you want your kids to see this movie. There is a plane crash - will your child remember this the next time they fly? There is a feeling that I am alone - my parents can't help me - do you want your child to feel this way when they are navigating a difficult situation, eg at school or with their friends?
What is the point?

Goes to the extreme in depicting male nudity - somewhat offensive.
Absolutely in no way suitable for children/teens. I would say , maybe of interest to film students in colllege. The male nudity is a little offensive, in that it goes as extreme as you can imagine, in terms of displaying .... I am amazed this was not an NC-17 movie ! I don't think this movie even belongs on common sense media.

Excellent movie for mature adults but themes of failure, hopelessness likely to depress rather than enlighten teens
The Coen brother's tonic for the existential burden of life - every individual's aloneness, the seeming futility of suffering, the random violence of circumstance - is art . In the movie , the 'art' is folk singing. For the Coen Brothers, their artistry creates cynical movies, infused with dark humor. This Coen Brothers movie is way less violent than any of their other movies, so by that metric, it is certainly more appropriate for teens (no Coen movie is ever appropriate for children or tweens), but the despair, the meandering journey the protagonist takes, I don't see how any of that creates the sense of adventure and hope that a young adult needs when she/he is setting out in the world. So avoid it. They can check back in with this movie, in their forties.

Not a PG-13
although some people, including the CSM reviewer may have missed it, Sharon Stone does show partial nudity in bed with Arnold. A very violent but thought provoking satire, before the director lost his way with some of his subsequent flicks..

unfortunately, because of the nudity, I don't recommend this Harvey Weinstein film for most children/teens
This is a great movie, but the nudity is the real spoiler. Watch the movie first before you let your children watch it. (And remember, the whole time that you are watching this movie, that Harvey Weinstein won an Academy Award as producer because of this picture. No doubt he had a hand in promoting the unnecessary nudity.)
