What's the Story?
WE BABY BEARS tells the origin story of bear brothers Ice Bear, Grizz, and Panda from the We Bare Bears series. The adorable young bears get kicked out of their apartment after a few misunderstandings, and find themselves without a home. However, they do have a magical cardboard box which can transport them anywhere. In every episode they explore a new potential home, visiting fairies in a magical forest, ghosts in a haunted mansion, and mermaids under the sea. The bears' intentions are good, but ultimately their naivete and lack of common sense cause them to overstay their welcome. The magical creatures turn on the bears, and they're forced to flee to a new location in their magical cardboard box. Will the baby bears ever find a home that accepts them exactly as they are?
Is It Any Good?
Fans of We Bare Bears will enjoy this much-anticipated prequel. The characters and voice performances in We Baby Bears are over the top adorable (like one scene where a bear falls and says "I'm covered in boo boos" and proceeds to smother his own arm in kisses). Kids familiar with the grown-up versions of the bears will like seeing them as little kids. Since the bears visit a new potential home in each episode, it's also fun to see them interact with all kinds of creatures and worlds. The unfailingly optimistic bears model positive attitudes, though that is counterbalanced by a lot of mean characters who seem unnecessarily violent at times. There's nothing super new or transcendent in this spin-off, but it's a treat for kid and grown-up fans of the original series to spend more time with these characters.
Talk to Your Kids About ...
Families can talk about the bears' perseverance in We Baby Bears. How do you think they are able to start each adventure optimistic that they'll find their new home, despite not having success before? Why do you think it's important to try and try again?
Each group of creatures the bears meets starts off kind and then ends up turning on them, usually trying to kill them by the end of the episode. The show makes this seem silly and funny. What do you think about this?
Would you invite the bears to live in your house? Why or why not?
