This show is a murder mystery for murder mystery fans -- it's so dedicated to the inner workings of the plot's machine that it tends to neglect the need to entertain along the way. Three Pines' charms are subtle, starting with the snowy landscape, and including the idiosyncrasies of the small town and its relationship with the nearby Indigenous community. But this is a series looking for viewers who are interested in solving the crime alongside Inspector Gamache; casual viewers might just end up grinding their gears.
