This is a gorgeously haunting mystery shot in the English countryside with a strikingly Scandinavian influence. The setting and cast of The Rising will suck viewers in every bit as much as the mystery at its center. A murder victim stubbornly refusing to cross over before solving her own killing is nothing new, and most would assume a CW show wouldn't be the one to bring a fresh take on the trope. Yet The Rising does just that as a quietly compelling family drama wrapped in a murder mystery, with performances that tackle both beautifully.
