What is too mature, they don't understand
My 8, 10 and 12 year old loved this so much that I have had to make sure they are not binging too much. Much better than most of what is on YouTube or TickTok. At least they are learning a first year philosophy course despite some vulgarities that they don't understand. No swearing though because you can't curse in the afterlife.

Show about thinking with comedy
First off the 4 points on sex is insane. Thats really high for a show that only mentions sex, and never shows anything. The next rating thats crazy is the Violence. I can only think on one occasion of shown violence which is the trolly, which was gory, but just had gut splatters, other than that, just mentions of tortures that arent shown. This show makes you think. They're dead and they're in a Heaven Hell like place but they dont call it that, and do a pretty good job at showing an afterlife without knabbing at any religion. This show talks a lot about ethics, as one of the leads is an Ethics Professor. It can be super dark, but also super light hearted.

The Good Place is a creative sitcom/drama with great diverse role models and philosophy thrown in!
We watched The Good Place with our 11 year old and we all love it. It is so funny, and the characters are very diverse and inspiring. The part I love the most is the changes that occur in the characters over the years. Cursing is not present as you cannot curse in the Good Place (you saw "fork", "shirt" etc. The one difficult episode involved Mindy in the Medium Place; I think a parent can just skip that episode with their child (and summarize it for them to avoid questions about cocaine and masturbation), or fast forward through part of that episode as I think there is something very important plot-wise in that episode.
Overall, we loved this show. We have two episodes left and don't want it to end!
PS. Ted Danson is still one of the top sitcom comedians around. He is great in this, as is the rest of the excellent cast.

Great show!! But in regards to "What's all the fuss about?? parents say??
I see quite a few replies stating that there is nothing wrong with this show's content for 12 and under children.
What is wrong with this? I guess sex, cocaine, sexual references, etc. etc. is fine for your kid. haha.
Just b/c kids grow up at a different pace than 20-30-40 years ago doesn't mean they have in fact developed enough emotionally to process all things this show has that is not for kids.
Personally, I think the show is fantastic. Just not for my 12 year old daughter.

Great for older tweens/teens
I've watched the show myself and was fine letting my 14 year old watch it. I don't think I'd let my 11 year old watch it though. Sure there are a lot of references to drugs and sex but I don't think it's worse than they get in other shows and I felt the positive messages outweigh those, especially in the later seasons. I look forward to watching it again.

Not for kids at all.
This may be a hilarious show for adults, but for kids there are far too many crass references to sex, inappropriate relationships, swear words (even though they are changed while on the good place) items such a vibrators, crimes involving violence and drugs and just literally so much negative behaviour and topics that are not ok for kids at all. Mentions of masterbation, porn, uses of many words like hump or bang etc to reference having sex and then on to filming people having sex, it’s endless. Not ok for kids. Barely ok for teens but not ok for kids at all.

For older teens
I watched this with my kids 10 and 13 after reading the reviews but there are themes that are way too old for them. Sexual harassment (the scene with the flashback to when Elanor’s partner boycotts a coffee place due to the guy sexually harassing an interviewee and groping her and calling her dog face is a bit full on - my ten year old was disturbed by it) rape among other themes . The humour is sometimes presented in a cynical way that as an adult is funny but for kids it’s a bit too much along with older themes.
Some kids don’t pick up on it but unfortunately mine do. I thought this would be on par with Brooklyn nine nine but it’s way more adult.
It’s a great show for adults and 15 upwards (I found it really funny) but I would not recommend it for anyone younger.
There definitely needs to be more funny family shows made.

Not for tweens
My 11 year old started watching this unbeknownst to me. I watched a few episodes with him after that — the last episode we watched talked about cocaine, masturbation, and porn. It’s a mild adult show for adults, not kids.

Too many sex references
I watched all of the episodes/seasons and I thought there were too many sexual references to be considered a family show. There were lots of references to casual sexual encounters involving on of the main characters, Elenor. There were lots of references to masterbation involving the character, Mindy. There were references to watching and filming a sexual encounter. This is just the tip of the iceberg and like others said, many references to drug use as well. I do not recommend this show for kids or families.
