What's the Story?
POWERBIRDS is an animated series about Ace (Cory Doran) and Polly (Tara Strong), a pair of adorable parakeets who live with a superhero-obsessed kiddo named Max (Orlando Lucas). These are no ordinary birds, however: Whenever one of the numerous local villains (such as Asher Stasher, a materialistic squirrel who loves to burgle baubles) starts to stir up trouble, the duo head straight to their secret lair (aka "The Command Coop") to slip into their superhero suits and rush out to save the day.
Is It Any Good?
Kids are sure to dig this playful series for its dynamic visual style, cheeky humor, and adorable lead characters. While Powerbirds is a good-versus-evil kind of show full of superhero antics and battles, the villains are silly rather than scary -- it's hard to be too frightened of a maniacal cartoon owl who blows "bad dream bubbles" at unsuspecting townsfolk. The series is probably a bit too simplistic for older audiences, but the stories are cheerful and funny while also focusing on lessons about friendship, sharing, and cooperation, making it a fine choice for younger kiddos.
