What's the Story?
In the National Geographic documentary, PHOTOGRAPHER, a married couple photographs the aquatic environment near an oil rig to raise awareness about its dangers. In another episode, a photographer obsessed with ships of all kinds chases a childhood image that has haunted him for years. In yet another episode, a lapsed biology student-turned-photographer experiments with chicken eggs in an attempt to capture the first moments of life. How do these photographers capture the world in a way that brings meaning to their audience? Do they have the power to change the world?
Is It Any Good?
Not only are the skills of master photographers on view in this outstanding documentary, their personal stories beguile as well. Photographer interests itself in both the situations and the subjects. It delves more deeply than many documentaries because of the interdimensional nature of the content. This documentary spotlights both the telling and the teller of the story.
An excellent choice for families of tweens and teens, this show can serve as an inspiration for those looking for meaning in a career. In this fascinating series, the wizards behind the curtain are just as beguiling as the worlds they chronicle.
Talk to Your Kids About ...
Families can talk about perseverance in Photographer. In order to get the shots that elevate their subjects to the next level, these photographers have to endure a lot of failure. What other shows or media do you engage with that encourages perseverance?
Photography is the art of taking a picture of something that exists. What if a photograph is altered? Is there such a thing as a standard of integrity in photography?
