What's the Story?
In OSCAR'S HANDMADE HALLOWEEN, Sesame Street's most lovable grouch begrudgingly helps rescue dogs get adopted. With the help of Sunny Anderson and two rescue-dog-loving kids, Oscar's beloved trash is upcycled into adorable canine Halloween costumes. The dogs wear their Halloween costumes in a parade, where potential adoptive families can get to know them.
Is It Any Good?
Kids who love dogs and Sesame Street will love this special holiday mashup. The focus is more on the recycling and rescue dog themes, with a sprinkling of Halloween spirit mixed in. The show has a HGTV-esque DIY format, with plenty of Oscar silliness throughout. Grown-ups should be prepared for the show to inspire kid viewers to make their own costumes, so be sure to have some recycling at the ready for your crafting needs.
Talk to Your Kids About ...
Ask preschoolers: Do you have any materials at home you could use to make your own recycled costumes? What do you think would be good supplies we could turn into something new?
Do you know anyone who has rescued an animal from a shelter? Do you understand what that means? Why is that a helpful thing to do?
