What's the Story?

MILF OF NORWAY kicks off with middle-aged mom Lene (Mariann Hole) struggling to find purpose after she's laid off from the ad agency she's worked at for years. Her marriage is dull, her son barely tolerates her, and her bank account is collecting dust. When her best friend Kikki (Henriette Faye-Schjøll) confides that her husband's been paying for porn on a site called InsideFans, Lene makes an account there so she can snoop around. After impulsively uploading a photo of her bare breast one night to make her friend laugh, she's surprised and excited to find that the pic has earned her a bunch of new followers—and a pile of cash tips. From there, she carves out a niche for herself on the adults-only website while trying to hide what she's doing from the people around her.

There are only some mild laughs here and there, which feels odd for a show billing itself as a comedy. This more accurately seems to be a family drama with some wacky elements, though nowhere near as wacky as a title like MILF of Norway might suggest. The performances are decent, and it's entertaining to see Lene recalibrate from a broke and underappreciated job-seeker to a newly minted pinup model with enthusiastic, paying fans. It's not the most compelling series about a middle-aged woman finding her way (at least, not thus far), but it's entertaining enough and may show more depth over time.
