What's the Story?
In MIGHTY MIKE, a pug named Mike attempts to woo the comely canine next door while simultaneously protecting his home from other critters. Debonair Mike has eyes only for the lovely Iris, and he's full of schemes to catch her eye -- if only his pesky housemates and feral neighbors wouldn't eat up his time with their mischievous antics.
Is It Any Good?
These amusing animal characters will have viewers in stitches, and CGI makes their silliness all the more hilarious. From Mike's exasperated looks to Iris's dismissive and elusive demeanor, it's easy to know what the characters are thinking and feeling from the detail of their expressions and motions. From meddlesome neighborhood raccoons to Mike's acrobatic turtle housemates, this menagerie is a constant source of entertainment.
It's hard to find TV shows that cater to different age groups equally and steer clear of the iffy stuff, but Mighty Mike does just that. For little kids, the critters' comical antics will be enough. Older viewers who can fill in the blanks the lack of dialogue leaves will find even more to amuse them. And of course, it's always fun to dabble in the minutiae of animal psychology, which is on full display here.
Talk to Your Kids About ...
Families can talk about where Mighty Mike exaggerates for comic effect. What suggestions does it make about what animals think and feel? Does it change how you see animal behavior in the real world?
Are there any villains in this story? What separates a villain from a character who's merely meddlesome? Is there any actual violence in this series? How does a show's comedy influence how violence is portrayed?
How does Mike show his perseverance in catching Iris's eye? Why is that an important equality to have in life? Does he ever succeed?
