This surprisingly philosophical survival show takes time to address the reasons people choose to escape civilization. In Life Before Zero: Next Generation, people walk their talk, sometimes falling down while they aspire to survive in the winter wilds of the northernmost state in the U.S.

Families with teens can get a lot out of this show, especially when considering what it takes to get food on the table, wood in the stove, and a roof over one's head. Not suited for those who are sensitive to seeing animals being hurt, or those averse to big game hunting.
