J-Hope is on a philosophical journey in this show, trying to get a grip on his future as an artist, and as a human. His curiosity and wonder lead him on a kind of vision quest, where he visits his mentors and influences to learn more about the craft of dance from them. He's able to learn more because he shows humility, allowing himself to be open to new experiences, even when he's achieved mastery in his field already.

Diverse Representations
a little
Artists from diverse backgrounds, ethnicities, and influences make appearances in this show. South Korean, European, Japanese, Black and White Americans are featured. The vast majority of people featured in the show are male.
Parents need to know that Hope on the Street is a Korean dance documentary (available with subtitles) in which mega-boyband star J-Hope of BTS searches for his artistic roots by visiting dancers who have mastery in different styles. Some wine and beer is drunk, and there's a little language ("damn"). The people featured in this series are largely male, though they're males from diverse backgrounds, classes, and ethnicities. Perseverance and curiosity are focuses of this show.
This is a good show for older kids to learn about passion in something creative. About looking back at your roots to stay grounded as a person. How staying humble even if you are already very successful is something that a person should keep in mind. j-hope is a global superstar and I thought it would just showcase his talent but instead, he was so humble to learn again from the legends of street dance. He seems to have created this to LEARN how dancing and the experiences that come with it will be a source of inspiration and moral lessons in life. The way he paid tribute to the people who introduced him to street dance - that he even made a song entitled to the same dance crew "Neuron" says so much about his character, and how he values gratitude and relationships among others.
Many documentaries about artists shows their journey from their begginings to their success... but Hope on the street Vol. 1 hits differently.
J-hope has SOMETHING to show us. We are not gonna learn only about his life and career. He wants us to learn about dancing. We are gonna learn about different genres in this discipline, tecniques, meaning and pieces of history.
But also the viewer is expected to put in practice what they learnt in the most fun way: by dancing along with him, to replicate the choreos and steps from his free style. J-hope did the score of this documentary to show us how he applies what he learn from his masters.
And this is when we met the person beyond the artist. A worldwide superstar willing to learn from masters of dance. A passionate student who is humble enough to keep learning, whose big talent doesn't limit him from growing!
