Parent and Kid Reviews
What's the Story?
HOP and his friends live in the town of Fair Village, where they play and learn together. Always respectful of each other, the group of friends engage in adventures that blend fantasy and reality as they craft kites, explore the lake in a submarine, and eat popcorn inside a hot-air balloon. Hop and his friends always discover that with perseverance, creativity, and teamwork, they can solve anything!
Is It Any Good?
Clever plot points and beautiful design choices make this preschool series stand out. Creating a world where kids still play outside and do research in the library, Hop finds a way to be nostalgic and timeless at the same time. Parents familiar with Arthur will find the visuals reminiscent of simpler times, a refreshing break from the abundance of CGI content. Kids who are more quiet and reflective will appreciate the show's steady pace and poignant sound effects, which highlight the story but don't distract. Overall, Hop offers a solid option for parents looking to expose their kids to meaningful storytelling that sparks conversation about sharing, accepting help, and dealing when things don't go as planned.
Talk to Your Kids About ...
Families can talk about the examples of perseverance demonstrated in Hop. How do characters behave when their friends are having difficulty? Do they keep going, or do they give up?
Hop's friends all have different levels of comfort with new experiences. Penny loves trying new things, like flying a balloon, whereas Hoot prefers to stay on the ground. Talk about the importance of respecting others' fears and concerns and what you can do to provide them with safety.
Notice how the characters live in houses of different styles and materials that fit with their lifestyles. What are some of the benefits of living with people from different origins and backgrounds?
