Geddy Lee Asks: Are Bass Players Human Too?
Parent and Kid Reviews
What's the Story?
GEDDY LEE ASKS: ARE BASS PLAYERS HUMAN TOO? follows rock luminary Lee, of the band Rush, as he visits his friends and fellow bassists at their homes. Lee wants to prove bass players are human, so he sets out to discover what their interests are beyond music.
Is It Any Good?
Bass players probably get the least recognition among rock musicians, and this show shines a bit of light on the craft and importance of the bass guitar. Geddy Lee Asks: Are Bass Players Human Too? recruits some (relatively) high-profile bassists, like Metallica's Rob Trujillo, Nirvana's Krist Novaselic, and everyone's favorite rock bassist, Les Claypool. But the series is content to just hang out around the house and follow its subjects while they do mundane activities. It's the equivalent of hanging out with a band in the studio: in theory it's cool, but you're mostly just waiting around for something to happen.
Talk to Your Kids About ...
Families can talk about music. Who are the bass players for your favorite bands or artists? Do you know any bass players by name? What role does the bass play in a rock band?
Why does Lee want to prove that bass players "are human"? How does he go about doing this? Is this a worthy experiment?
How do the musicians talk about their craft? What did you learn about the bass? Who was your favorite guest?
