What's the Story?
DEAL OR NO DEAL ISLAND, a contemporary spinoff of the Deal or No Deal franchise, features 13 contestants living in tropical paradise while vying for suitcases worth lots of cash. Hosted by Joe Manganiello, each episode of the game requires contestants to compete in Survivor-like challenges for suitcases hidden around the island. The player that retrieves the case worth the highest sum of the over $2 million of available prize money is immune from being booted out of the game. The player also gets to pick another contestant to play against the Banker in a round of Deal or No Deal. If the Banker wins, the chosen contestant must leave immediately. If the player makes a good deal -- ending up with a suitcase worth more than the suitcase in their possession, they choose who will be eliminated. The money scored from "good deals" is added to a pot that the last player standing at the end of the entire game can play for. But the Banker, who's watching everything from a private yacht anchored close by, is ready to throw in a new twist and raise the stakes at any given moment.
Is It Any Good?
The lively game show spinoff is a fun, tension-filled reality competition in which contestants compete in physical challenges, form alliances, and make risky choices in hopes of winning millions. Each of the contestants, which includes Survivor winner Bob Mariano (aka "Boston Rob") and The Real Housewives of Atlanta cast member and former Deal or No Deal suitcase girl Claudia Jordan, play hard and get dirty while secretly devising strategies that will keep them in the running. There's a limit to how much of the game players can control, given how folks can be eliminated by their fellow contestants for any reason. It doesn't help that the Banker strategically calls in with new rules and offers designed to throw them off. As a result, contestants are frequently forced to take unexpected gambles, which creates lots of nail-biting moments.
