What's the Story?
BODIES begins when Detective Sergeant Hasan (Amaka Okafor) discovers a naked dead man in an alley. Flash back to 1941, as Germany is dropping bombs on London, and DS Whiteman (Jacob Foreman-Lloyd) discovers the same body 80 years earlier. In 1890, Detective Inspector Hillinghead find the same body in the same alley. Each of the detectives investigates the mysterious murder, which will intertwine their lives and fates in ways they can scarcely imagine.
Is It Any Good?
This British production reimagines detective series, but more excitingly it reimagines the idea of a streaming detective series. Where most mystery stories can be infinitely expanded as detectives track down leads and red herrings, each new piece of the puzzle in Bodies completely recontextualizes the whole thing. Even describing the plot at its most basic level is a bit of a spoiler; this is one where it pays to dive in cold.
Talk to Your Kids About ...
Families can talk about the mystery. What do you know that the detectives don't? What are the clues? What do you think happened?
What are the differences between each of the time periods? What are the similarities? How do the unique circumstances of each time period affect how the detectives investigate?
What are some themes or motifs that keep recurring on the series? How could these themes be helpful in unlocking the mystery?
