What's the Story?

Two friends who surf and party together are capitalizing on the Australian surf scene in BARONS. One makes wetsuits with the help of fellow surfers and friends. The other splits from the wetsuit business to craft shorts custom made for surfing. Meanwhile, the Vietnam War is raging, plucking peers from their group. Will the friends be able to see eye to eye now that they have become business rivals? Or is it too hard to forgive a slight?

Rankled nerves drive the plot behind this party-heavy surf show based in 1970s Australia. Barons heaves with intensity drawn from Ben O'Toole's (Hacksaw Ridge) feral performance as Snapper, the founder of a wetsuit company. The party scenes can wear a little thin, especially when long glances are exchanged by lovers who don't have too much going for them.

However, the rad surfing plays well throughout. Fans of shows with a little nostalgia and a lot of sea spray will enjoy this one the most. Parents who don't want their kids attending beer-soaked festivities -- even virtually -- may want to steer clear.
