This special is a sweet and sunny preschool treat, just like the Alma's Way series. While the series typically focuses on Alma's Puerto Rican community in the Bronx, Alma Goes to Puerto Rico allows Puerto Rico itself to be in the spotlight. Alma has some frustrations like realizing her Spanish isn't good enough to communicate easily with her Bisabuela, but mostly she learns that she fits right in with her family in Puerto Rico. The special comes across as a love letter to Puerto Rico, and Alma is happy to sing and dance along.
