What's It About?
NICE TO MEET YOU is a show about human and animal creatures connecting through the experiments of Professor Burkhead and his "Unifier" machine. Set in a super-secret space lab, each episode shows the professor's machine transporting creatures with the potential to connect, one human and one other species, before they're asked to participate in an experiment. The machine allows the participants to get to know and understand each other. Throughout each episode, both subjects share what makes them unique as well as what experiences and interests they have in common. As the subjects get closer, both emotionally and physically, the "Unifier" shows them reaching a higher and higher percentage of unification. By the end of each episode, the subjects have a new understanding and appreciation for each other, and listeners will have learned new facts about creatures around the world and different occupations. The show helps listeners imagine what commonalities we may share with others that may seem completely different.
Is It Any Good?
Full of wild characters and fun animal facts, this show encourages listeners to learn about the creatures and people around us and listen to what we may share in common. Nice to Meet You is short, witty, and sure to entertain. It will be especially interesting for kids who love animals and science. With animated voice actors and high-quality audio, the show imagines the characteristics of various creatures, bringing them to life with style while also peppering in factoids.
While chock-full of fun facts, this show educates more through entertainment than structured teaching. It's a fun and easy to listening experience for both kids and adults, but it does tend to rely on stereotypes to characterize the subjects. Sometimes this comes across humorously and well-natured, such as a mother and red panda discussing nitpicking their kids before the mother communicates with her son and sharing that this is a way to show her love. At other times the animal-human comparisons come off awkward and almost inappropriate, such as the implication that a moth being like a butterfly might be offensive and "insect-ist." Overall, this podcast is a fun show that promotes empathy, connection, and curiosity.
