What's It About?

Hosts Leela Sivasankar Prickitt and her mother, Lyndee Prickitt, present international news stories to listeners of all ages in NEWSY POOLOOZI. Each episode includes a mix of news stories, ranging from major headlines to environmental news, sports, entertainment, and much more. Kid correspondents from around the globe join the hosts to report on local stories. There's an "Around the World in 80 Seconds" segment that sums up the world news of the week, as well as a "Top Five Facts Quiz" at the end. The fun interaction and humor between the hosts (along with some zany sound effects) keep the podcast lively and upbeat.

This is an excellent news podcast for kids and families that's age-appropriate while also respecting young listeners' intelligence and curiosity. The mother-daughter hosts of Newsy Pooloozi bring a genuine conversational style to the news-reading, which allows topics to be explored in depth and with the right amount of explanation for younger viewers. While Leela is equally involved in presenting the stories, some of the bigger concepts are explained by her mom, who is an international journalist. During a story about Nordic countries joining NATO, Leela asks the questions that many children listening might have if they have overheard the news about Russia and Ukraine. When Leela is summing up the main points for herself, this helps kids listening at home process and understand as well. The use of local kid correspondents adds to the kid-centric aspect of Newsy Pooloozi, making it a great choice for families with children who are curious about the world.
