What’s It About?
In each episode of the LEGO FRIENDS PODCAST, a pair of hosts -- including regulars Nicole Laeno, Jordan Mae, Kheris Rogers, and Pressley Hosbach -- play fun games and open up about questions relevant to kids their own age. These include personal stories about perseverance when trying new things, the value of expanding one's comfort zone, and their experiences during the pandemic. They also play fun interactive games that listeners can play along with.
Is It Any Good?
While Lego Friends Podcast is highly promotional, it also has a lot of positive and empowering messages for young listeners. Every episode features its young hosts discussing Lego products and playing games such as "would you rather" and "guess the mashup animal sounds."
Episodes also feature honest conversations about self-confidence, self-love, and compassion. Even though the Lego Friends Podcast sometimes plays into stereotypes of young girls, it also uses the platform to influence young listeners seriously. That awareness makes all the difference and makes this a worthwhile podcast for older kids and tweens.
Talk to Your Kids About ...
Families can talk about how the Lego Friends Podcast features a diverse group of young girls as hosts. How does such representation contribute to the show, and how might it be improved upon? What unique perspective does each host have, and why is it important to have a variety of backgrounds and perspectives in a friend group?
The Lego Friends Podcast is clearly intended to promote the Lego Friends brand. Does the fact that it is a promotional tool negate the show's positive messages and themes? Do you feel like you are being sold something when listening, or does it feel genuine?
Despite its name, the Lego Friends Podcast looks beyond just the Lego brand to explore themes relevant to young listeners. Is its title then misleading to potential listeners, or a smart way to draw them in? Discuss what marketing is and how it's used on kids and teens.
This show has strong themes of compassion and empathy, which are demonstrated by all the hosts. Why are these important character strengths?
