What’s It About?
GOOD MORNING, GOOD NIGHT is one of about a dozen podcasts available from A Kids Company About, which also creates books that, "empower a generation of kids through diverse storytelling." Each five-minute episode, host Taes Leavitt helps young listeners wake up or wind down with loving words, guiding them through movements, affirmations and mindfulness practices. All episodes have pleasant background music and clear kind language.
Is It Any Good?
If you want your kids to be led through brief mindfulness activities by a loving voice, this podcast might be just what you're looking for. If you can stomach the sugary sweet voice and affectionate words of Good Morning, Good Night host Taes Leavitt, you can choose from an ample library short episodes. All episodes are designated as either morning or night listens, and provide safe and appropriate content for young listeners, guiding them through physical movements and visualizations to start or end their day.
Not every episode has a strong social-emotional lesson, and not all episodes mention contexts or situations in which mindfulness practices would be helpful in kids' lives. Thus, adults may need to listen along and follow up with kids to help them learn the self-regulation skills. With no characters, stories or humor tugging on their attention, kids also might need adult help to stay tuned in. Grown-ups could also physically model the activities for young listeners that struggle with verbal instructions that are not often repeated.
