What's It About?
DREAM BREACHERS follows 12-year-old Evan Rickert as he discovers his ability to move between dreams and reality. Suddenly, this seemingly everyday kid finds himself thrust into a world where he's constantly questioning what's real and what's not. This puts him into opposition with a mysterious organization known as the Dream Academy and forces him to confront and develop his new power. Although the story is filled with imagination and thrills, the thin line between dreams and reality might be confusing or frightening for younger listeners.
Is It Any Good?
As far as narrative podcasts go, Dream Breachers feels tailor-made for older kids. Its complex story, rich characters, and top-shelf production only enhance the listening experience. Moreover, each episode is roughly 30 minutes long. Akin to a TV episode, this gives listeners enough time to invest in the story and characters before their interest wanes. What's more, episodes tend to end on a cliffhanger, encouraging fans to return the next week for the next juicy installment.
Talk to Your Kids About ...
Families can talk about how Evan confronts his power to bring things from dreams into reality in Dream Breachers. What would you do with this newfound ability? What type of responsibility comes with these types of powers?
Evan's parents are very accepting of his interest in dreams and his active imagination. Would he be a powerful "dream breacher" without this support? How do listeners feel empowered by their own loved ones? What does support from a trusted adult look like to you?
Evan's dreams often reflect his own desires in real life. What's a recent dream listeners have had, and what does it have to say about their real-life experiences? How interconnected are dreams with our waking life?
Evan demonstrates perseverance and courage in his adventures in the dream world. Why are these important character strengths?
Activity idea: Start a dream journal. Keep a journal or paper next to where you sleep. When you wake up in the morning, write down what you can remember about your dream (if anything). Take five minutes to reflect and write about how this might relate to something you're going through in your life at the moment.
