What’s It About?
CANCIÓN EXPLODER is a Spanish-language version of the award-winning podcast, Song Exploder, hosted by Martina Castro. The podcast introduces famous Latino and Hispanic musicians and songwriters from various countries including México, Chile, Uruguay, Puerto Rico, and Colombia. It takes a deep dive into one of their well-known songs, deconstructing and sharing the meaning behind it. Artists share their inspiration and detail the process of adding elements of music, rhythm, mood and vocals to create their finished product. Listeners can hear how depth is created by blending layers of sound and music, building from a single idea and leading up to the complete song, which is played at the end of the episode. Featured artists explain the influence of culture, language and tradition on their musical journey. Guests demonstrate how communication within their support systems, curiosity to learn about music from other cultures, and courage to show vulnerability have led them to create and share the music they produce.

It offers a window into the motivation and artistic processes behind songs straight from creative mind of the artist. Guests are open and honest as they explain the complicated feelings (and sometimes traumas) that have led to their healing through artistic expression. An example of this is shared when Mon Laferte (‘Pa' Dónde Se Fue', translated to English as "Where Did You Go?") explains the song's lyrics come from a letter she wrote to her estranged father.
