What's It About?
In Carly Siefert's podcast, BUSY KIDS LOVE MUSIC, kids and families are introduced to a wide range of musical genres and themes from all over the world. Instrumental and vocal music is presented by time period, season, and style (pop, folk). Culturally diverse music associated with traditions and ceremonies are presented and vocal selections are often sung by members of the culture of the music's origin. Curious kids and families alike will enjoy learning the backstories of both new and familiar music. For example, it's explained that since drums and voice are so interwoven in Native American music, people who play drums are often referred to as singers rather than drummers.
Is It Any Good?
The magic of music is in the way it can reach us all personally in unique meaningful ways. Busy Kids Love Music is a competent crash-course in some of the infinite ways we hear and experience music. Along with many sound bites to support each idea, host Carly Seifert offers some of the history behind the pieces. She helps listeners interpret what they're hearing with greater perspective into why and how it was originally created, and how it may have been changed or re-interpreted over time. Carly skillfully introduces a range of music that may not otherwise be easily discovered, expanding listeners' exposure to world perspectives and sounds. Her curated playlists that accompany each episode further the educational experience and give listeners a chance to hear musical pieces in their entirety can be found free on her website.
