Very sad and emotionally intense

This was not the funny, uplifting, and adventurous movie we were hoping for. There are a lot of sad and emotionally intense events in this movie. We stopped the movie at the house fire scene with two sobbing kids. If you have sensitive kids, this may just be too sad. I think this could be an ok movie for older tweens or adults who know to expect a poignant tear-jerker.

Might be intense for younger children

I saw this film back in 2009, and it was really great, due to the years where Pixar's animation has been blowing up, etc. So far, I think the most intense part is not the beginning where the wife dies, or the final battle at the blimp, but rather the ending; (SPOILER) the main protagonist's house falling out of sight. Its not as violent as other Pixar films like Incredibles or Cars 2, but has a lot more emotional payoff in the end. I wouldn't recommend it for sensitive children due to the intensity of the emotional scenes in the movie.

Tear Jerker !

I wouldn't recommend this for kids younger than 10 since it addresses death, loss and depression. Otherwise its a great movie, very sad and a real tear jerker.

Not for the faint of heart

This is a really touching movie about an old man who loses his wife. He goes in search of peace, holding onto a dream they had together as a couple only to find that his solitary life now requires new dreams. It is a beautiful message, but the concept is very adult. There is almost continuous peril without a lot a comic relief. People die and the bad guy is looking to kill people rather than lock them up or put them away somehow. My almost 8 year old really enjoyed it, but my almost 5 year old cried through most of it saying ā€œI hate this, turn it off.ā€ He is a kid who doesnā€™t like much action or suspense but generally he clutches me through those parts and ends up getting swept away by the rest of it. Unfortunately, there just wasnā€™t enough to sweep him away from the sad parts. Grownups will love it, and possibly older kids too. The setting is really cool, and the moral is a good one though maybe a bit over the heads of children.

Too Depressing

Too much death. I watched this and the first part really got me. It has a lot of depressing elements, death, going to court, getting kicked out of your house. By the time that I was halfway core, my heart was racing to fast. I did finish it, though. SPOILER ALERT!!!"Unlike other kid movies, the bad guy dies, instead of getting arrested.

Good for adults and older kids

This is a really well made movie that families with older children can enjoy. I recommend that CSM increase the recommended age. It's not for little kids; it's too sad. That doesn't mean it's a bad movie; you just have to get the age right.

emotional movie

I had to switch this movie off after about 20 minutes. my 7yo and 9yo found it incredibly sad. They both sobbed at the start when the old lady passed away and just couldn't move on from that. even the parts I thought they would find funny - they found sad. They were also sad when the old man had to go to court and they tried to make him go and live in a retirement village.
