Amazing
This movie is spot on historically and is amazingly entertaining nothing a 11 year old couldnāt handle. Yes there are some beatings but this is a true story part of history and something kids should know about.

Sad, Violent and vulgar movie
Selma is a relatively good movie, but definitely not for young children.
Many people are killed or injured, Excessive swearing and racial slurs,
and kids should only watch if they can handle the above.

I cried through the whole thing. There is so much violence that is real. Cops hitting innocent people. People being killed. We left early. It should be rated R

Good movie that requires an educated audience
We watched this movie in school when it came out because we were doing the Civil Rights Movement and I think it was a really great look at the people behind the movement. I do think that if a kid isn't studying related topics in school, their parent should talk to them about racism and who MLK was before just popping in the video, because it shows a lot of graphic scenes, slurs, and relies on a fair amount of general knowledge. It's a really well-made film but I think their target audience is adults and older teenagers who will have a better understanding of the complexities of the subject matter.
