Final Destination in kid's clothes?

A high quality cartoon which adults will probably like, but may really scare young kids. My eight year old said it was almost too scary. This is basically Final Destination for kids: the famous cat Puss in Boots is followed by death itself (in the form of El Lobo), and it's the only thing that's ever frightened even Puss himself. His hair stands on end whenever he's in the wolf's presence, and the wolf carries some terrifyingly sharp hooks and continues to say that he's looking forward to taking Puss's last life. There is also another villain who doesn't hold back in wanting to kill anything that gets in his way, including his own men. For older/less sensitive kids as well as parents, you'll probably really enjoy this well-made adventure, and its conclusion about the importance of family.

Intense, frightening characters, best for older kids

I am SO glad I read the parent reviews on this site before a group of our family went to this movie over the holidays. I was able to *correctly* assess that it would be too scary and intense for my 5-year old, so we didn’t let him come along (he got to do other fun things - don’t worry). My 8 and 12 year olds were both covering their eyes in parts because that Death wolf - and every scene with him in it - is indeed frightening. The movie had some entertaining and heartfelt parts, but it was on-the-whole quite intense. There was not as much comic relief as in other movies from this series. I was also surprised the writers chose to add light swearing to a film that would be animated and advertised to kids. I’d say this is solidly for upper elementary and older audiences.

Dark, violent, jump scares and cynical humor

The film keeps on getting more and more violent, relying heavily on action scenes reminiscent of a van Damme film, jump scares and downright cynical jokes, with a permanent dark undertone of the puss in boots being hounded by death himself, after he has used up 8 of his lives - or deaths, as the hissing and growling wolf/death says at some point. Prepare yourselves for in depth conversations about the scary as heck wolf and death with your traumatized kids after watching this. As much as the puss in boots resents his life choices, among them leaving the love of his life standing at the altar (no wait, she had bailed as well, but only tells him this after watching him wallow in his resentment for most of the movie) I resented taking my 7 year old daughter to the movies for this. Oh and the swearing, there’s that as well. Jokes made are about death, active shooter drills and attempted killings, along other similarly light topics.

Too much swearing - language alert

The only reason we watched this is because there’s been a massive vacancy of kids movies in the theater so this is our only option. It’s an incredibly disappointing movie. Filled with randomness, moments of violence and bad mouths, words we would never want our kids to repeat in school. It’s a movie for movie’s sake with no storyline plot or purpose. A moment where the Kitty says “bullSH…” and where a bear said “what the He??” Our kids did not laugh at all during the movie, but they did witness swearing, moments of bullying, constant violence, and when I leaned over to ask them - what’s happening - neither kid knew.

Surprised This Didn’t Warrant a PG-13 Rating

While the first Puss in Boots had a few moments of action-based violence and innuendo, most of that was fairly innocent or would go over a younger kid’s head. Unfortunately, Puss in Boots: The Last Wish is MUCH darker, so much so that my son is so scared that he was unable to sleep alone after seeing it. Add to that the myriad of colorful language - both directly spoken or implied/beeped out - and this movie really should be targeted only to older kids. The persistent presence of a wolf Grim Reaper and constant references to “murder” and “killing” had me checking mid-movie if I’d somehow missed a higher rating on this movie. My son has seen a lot of movies, many with heavy action, but Puss in Boots: The Last Wish is really next level and, in my opinion, much more suited for tween and teen audiences. Parents of younger kids might do well to consider carefully or prescreen the movie to determine if it’s appropriate for their child. As for me, I can’t undo what my son was exposed to, but I remain so disappointed that I didn’t have a better understanding of what we we were in for before taking him to see the movie.

The best animated movie since Into The Spider-Verse: just not for your easily scared kiddos

Puss In Boots: The Last Wish was one of my favorite animated movies ever, and definitely the best to hit theaters since Into The Spider-Verse. This movie is hilarious, heartfelt, and visually stunning, with incredible characters and a fantastic cast of voice actors and soundtrack. If your children are easily scared by villains, do not take them to see this movie unless you don't mind them sleeping in your bed for a few nights after. The main antagonist of the film is quite literally death itself, which obviously brings in some heavy topics to deal with, but also is just downright scary. His eerie whistle will prick your kids' hair up just as much as it does our favorite fearless hero. If your kids aren't ready for death, I would recommend this one for your own night on the town. Don't have kids? Watch it. Watch this movie, and you won't be disappointed.

Real life lesson!

Great movie!! The message of the movie is deep, cherish your family and friends, be thankful for the life you have because we only have one life and death is always around us. If any parents are not okay teaching your kids the reality of life then stick to Cocomelon.

Much unnecessary violence from the start. Within first few mins of the show, Puss says “what the hell”. Both unnecessary to the plot of the movie. If you have a child even somewhat sensitive to violent scenes, I would skip this one. I didn’t even think to check reviews ahead of viewing as we are a Shrek loving family and never expected the literal violent hunt for a dead Puss.

The movie was great, fun all round and great for the time it came out for theaters. There is some foul language, but it would barely be considered that. Small kids may be afraid of "Death" the wolf character but its nothing too bad. Awesome movie, must watch 5/5 stars!
