Masterpiece.

This movie is a cinematic masterpiece. To put it at three stars is an honest understatement. Three stars is not giving this movie the glory it deserves. It is wonderfully animated and brilliantly casted. The dialogue is funny and witty and the plot is simply fantastic. The overall message is great and you can tell how much work went into this movie. It is beautifully crafted and wonderfully made. 5/5 stars.

Trash. Not funny. Totally misogynist esp. because the villain is evil because he's rejected by a woman so he goes on a violent destructive tirade. Fails the Bechdel test.

Man looks on the outward appearance, but God looks on the heart. 1 Samuel 16:7

There is so much I can say about this wonderful movie. We have Metro Man, child of wealth, popular, good looking, adored by the crowds. And then we have Megamind, despised, alienated, looked down on, an outcast from his youth. And yet as the story progresses, we find out that Metro Man was like the shepherd who deserted his flock when danger came. He only cared about himself and his own desires. When Metro City was being destroyed he didn't come to help. But there is a moment when Megamind had a change of heart in prison. In fact, he REPENTED. He confessed that he had lived a selfish life and asked for forgiveness. I don't want to give away too much and spoil the ending, but we find out from this wonderful movie that it is not what we have outwardly that counts, but who we are inwardly, and sacrificing oneself for the good of others is what life really is all about. And there is a beautiful love story thrown in the entire mix. A great moral story for parents and for children, along with terrific animation and sound. I would give it ten stars if I could.

honoring the opportunity your given to be your best

Megamind is a great humoristic movie, but nothing out of the normal where the villian has the chance to demostrate he could change and stop being the antagonist.

Very funny and smart movie!!

This is one of my favourite Dreamworks Animation movies! It's a shame it doesn't get more attention. The script is well written and the plot is creative. I mean, "what if the bad guy won?", that's a really interesting thing to explore. Seeing what would happen next. I just love the change Megamind goes through. And at the same time he isn't really that bad in the beginning either. He just thinks it's his purpose. Makes him a really charming character and makes up for a lot of clever gags. The girl character Roxanne is also really cool. She might be a little sterotyphical cause she is the girl who needs to be rescued, but she is although a very strong, smart and active character. There is also, without giving too much away, a very clever plot twist towards the climax of the movie. The animation itself is also very nice to look at. The background music is awesome too. Highly recommend this movie for the whole family! :)

Polarizing, bittersweet

Netflix inexplicably lists this as Rated G whereas IMDB and Commonsense Media both list it as PG. Unfortunately I had already shown it to my 5-year old. Definitely not suitable for him. I've already reported this to Netflix. It's easy to say Roxanne is a positive role model, but dig a little deeper and ultimately she is just another damsel in distress who needs to be rescued by yet another male protagonist. Moreover, Megamind ultimately only does the right thing to win her heart. That is *not* a positive message. Finally, the choice of music is very poor. If you have subtitles enabled, you'll see a lot of words like 'sexy', 'hell', 'sexy girl', etc on the screen. Heavy metal music of AC/DC, Ozzy Osbourne, etc is not appropriate for kids. Otherwise, the movie is funny and has some mildly positive messages for older kids if they can be caveated and the flaws also be discussed.
