Too reliant on visuals, not enough going on

Solid visual effects, unfortunately, are not enough to make up for how much of a bore this film is. There’s just not enough happening here.

Intelligent science fiction not for younger teens.
Alex Garlands 2015 Magnum Opus Ex Machina is a psychologically simple concept brought to us through a complex, thought provoking test. Although there is nudity galore, none of it is sexual and it’s all robotic androids. Language is present but not severe and there’s occasionally sci fi violence but nothing serious.

Contemplative and fascinating when discussing interpersonal relationships and AI
A sci-fi film that centers on actors...and they deliver. I am definitely partial to Garland's work (huge fan of Annihilation) and this film features Gleeson and Isaac shooting some major shit. Vikander holds her own quite well, and although I understand the nudity in the film, it definitely has a male gaze-y vibe to it that I just wish it didn't. Those heels! C'mon!!! If it is going to make a stance on patriarchy that would be great but it feels like it falls way too short for that. When the film addresses AI and the interpersonal relationships the film is contemplative and fascinating.

This is by no means a movie for 13 year olds?!
The movie sexualizes women, and potrey them as a group of prostitutes. The movie furthermore shows serveral women naked, and the actors use filthy language. Drinking is also a big part of the movie.
