A fun adventure with humor, emotion, action and a couple of scares. Was mostly tongue-in-check, not too serious, although a bit of sadness and also some evil characters. A bit of swearing including "sh*t" being said several times. I took a 10 yo (and two 12 yo) fan of D&D, but I think 10yo was a bit young for it, 12yo just ok, but I'd recommend 13+. I lot of fighting as might be expected, but not gory, maybe a bit much fighting but I guess that is what D&D is about. Themes about being a good parent, who is important to you, and self confidence.

Took my nearly 7 year old, he absolutely loved it! It is definately not scary or gory. There is a bit more swearing than id have liked but my son has never repeated swear words so i suppose thats upto the parents to decide if suitable or not.

Fantasy film with little to no depth and very predictable but just great effects...

I would not consider this a "good" movie, because some of the acting was a big questionable and the characters had very little depth to them, but it was a fun action film to watch with a great fantasy vibe to it. It was not incredibly memorable, yet it was very fun and action packed with beautiful fantasy scenery and great horses and dragons and OWL BEARS and things. All in all, I would say it is a very PREDICTABLE film but it fun in general.

Great way to introduce kids to the series!

Minor cursing, I can't recall any blood or gore at all from fight scenes. Nothing I don't think any 5th grader and up couldn't handle if they are with an adult. No worse then any of the star wars movies or series.

Excellent!

A great fantasy adventure story that truly captures the essence of the classic tabletop RPG. The action sequences are well choreographed and exciting, the characters are well written, and the actors do a Phenomenal job giving them life and personality. There is lots of pg-13 violence and some occasional curses.

Great fun story, thoughtfully told

A great family film. The characters are well-developed and lots of fun. Chris Pine really makes the most of his charm and humour - and there's an interesting story arc for him in regards to his wife and daughter, something which really leaves the viewer thinking and with plenty to discuss afterwards. Michelle Rodriguez gets a lot more to work with than she has done in the FF movies, showing off what a great lead she can be - there's real balance with her character, both challenging the representation of tough women in these films and, at the same time, allowing the character to be the source of well-judged humour (Potatoes!). The secondary characters all engage and add more, whether it's to the themes, the humour or the adventure. Hugh Grant has a ball. Negatives: * Probably echoing the game itself, it can feel a little episodic in it's traditional stages on the journey. * The special effects are solid and never take you out, but are never gob-smacking (I'm grasping at straws here!) - Great representation / diversity - best served by never actually drawing attention to it or lecturing the audience. - Great demonstration of found family - really thoughtfully and movingly developed. Very useful in discussing the different types of families that people they come across might have.

A must see for nerds

Really good! It is much better if you play the game first though. There are some inaccuracies to the game (the Druid wildshapeing to many times in a row, encumberment rules broken on a flying character, etc) over all though there were less then I thought there would be and It was a great movie!

Good movie

It was a fun watch. Scary or violent scenes were covered up with humor. Infrequent uses of cuss words like sh*t. In a flashback scene, a couple cuddles in bed and two people flirt with each other. As far as sex and romance, that's as far as it gets. There is one scene where it shows people being zombified that might be disturbing for some.

Action packed fighting movie

Took a 10 year old and 16 year old cousin, plus my father, and we all loved it. Lots of fight scenes and mentions of death/near death experiences, but it was not gory. The 10 year old handled it fine. She’s a mature 10 year old, but many kids of the same age would be able to handle it if they are able to handle fight scenes and monsters. The 10 year old said: It was a very interesting movie lots of fighting scenes and near death moments if you like magic than you would love this movie. Not scary and a great action movie. Definitely recommend for 10 year old.

Take note of the horror theme

Even with the horror theme warning at the start we persisted and unfortunately the few moments of undead characters and one jumpscare (compounded with the high volume in the cinema) lead to my 10yo having nightmares. My 12yo was absolutely fine with the film overall so no issues with the 12A rating. Generally the film is really funny with expected violence on the theme but be wary if your child is sensitive to horror.
