Good character and visual style but not suitable for children.

I took my 11 year old and we left halfway through as he found the swearing and adult content too much (characters refer to genetalia several times, there's an overt drug taking reference, and constant use of swear words). There's a quite disturbing transformation scene also which he didn't like, and he's not the type of kid that gets scared or disturbed easily. Overall the story was good, but I could see how the family unit could also be overwhelming for children as they talked fast in and out of Spanish and English, all loud and quite volatile. For an example of a film that did this family dynamic and adult themes better but still suitable for families, go check out Transformers Rise of the Beasts.

Great Fun

There was more swearing, which I expect in a DC movie, but it was more than I thought was necessary. And I am not a prude. Overall the film was very good for the non-epic story where a character gets introduced to us.

Lots of swearing

I know this movie is rated PG-13 but my kids wanted to see this and i was told by a friend that this movie was similar to across the spiderverse as it pertained to violence and language. IT WAS NOT! There were lots of bad words used in the first fifteen minutes of the movie including BS, Sh$@ and more. We walked out on this movie around the 40 minute mark because my kids were covering their ears due to language and the beetle transformation freaked them out. My 8 year old did say the suit was cool though lol. Just be careful if you are a person sensitive to language and if your kids are easily scared. There was also a reference to drug usage that seemed unnecessary.

One of the best DC / superhero movies in a long time!

Blue Beetle was a great movie that my husband and I enjoyed as much as our kids! Yes, there is language and “superhero violence,” but there’s also a very family-friendly movie at the core. It’s about a super close-knit, multi-generational family, and a college graduate that comes home to the family’s new financial struggles. There are English subtitles when the characters speak Spanish, but that didn’t bother me at all - just know that. Lots of family love and the superhero lead character was an excellent actor — a major step up from “Cobra Kai!” Overall, I would recommend this for families with kids in the 11-12+ age group, it’s PG-13, so use common sense. It was the best superhero movie in a long time! My husband ranked it with “Iron Man” and “Black Panther.” (on the Marvel side - Ha!)

So Much Unnecessary Cursing

Without all the profanity, it would have been a decent movie.

A great family superhero film!

Saw this film on the Friday it was released with my husband and 7 year old kid. It was loved by all. López steals every scene he is in. Maridueña does an excellent job as Blue Beetle and Barraza is believable as the grandmother with a storied past. The film hits all the right tones with Soto offering a palette that most Latinx sensitive viewers can relate to and culturally understand. The chapulín colorado? Brilliant move. A far and away underutilized superhero. Very glad this got a cinema release so my kid could see himself onscreen.
