I liked that it was diverse with African American Barbie’s, Asian Barbies etc and there’s even trans Barbie . I think this movie is for basically 11+ however, there is something’s that go over little kids heads like when Barbie says he and ken don’t have genitals( penis/ Vagina) and also how guys sexualized Barbie and many other things that kids under 13 wouldn’t understand it’s still kinda for kids because it’s mostly Barbie and women empowerment.

Hi Ken!

Greta Gerwig has created a campy and fun film while still managing to capture the essence of what it means to be a person and how unrealistic standards weigh on many people. Wow. I don't even know what to say. I left the movie theater on a high because of the beautifully placed energy of this movie while still being left with a sense of deep deep introspection as I pondered what it really means to be a woman in today's world. I am inspired. And slack jawed. And most of all - I had the most fun at a movie that I've had in years. Greta Gerwig's Barbie is the must see event of the season and I recommend it to anyone - boys, girls, fathers, daughters, and yes, even your conservative grandparents. Please give it a watch as it seems to be a movie that I will be remembering for years and years to come.

body shaming and bs

was very excited to see this movie because of all the hype i had seen around it, but it was very disappointing. plot has no real meaning, encourages negative body messages (cellulite is gross, ugly, horrible) and the plot has no real meaning and is all over the place. wish i saw oppenheimer instead.

PLEASE READ THIS

I don’t get the big deal about how this isn’t good this is a feminism movie just in a different sense I agree it isn't for too young not because it’s gory or anything just because they will find it boring. This movie connects with women so much and some people just don’t understand that because they aren’t a women themselves or a feminist. The point of this movie isn’t to objectify men it’s to help women understand who they are, and all the making fun of the stuff normal women have is just because Barbie herself is almost like a young child learning about the world and you go through that with her. This is a great movie and portrays life so well it’s incredibly emotional not for all but for most. Also those of you complaining it’s a movie about a toy not for kids then check the rating it full on says 12 does that not give you a hint-

Barbie is and always has been a feminist icon, deal with it

Ok, I’m writing this in response to the reviews I’ve seen so far. First of all, yes, there are innuendos. This movie is rated pg-13 for a reason. If you brought your kid to it that’s your problem. As a teenager, I can say without a doubt this movie is incredible, inspiring, and hilarious. If you think Barbie has suddenly gone “woke”, have I got news for you! Barbie has and always will be a strong woman, who puts her ambitions and career before the thought of any man or child comes into mind. If you truly want to teach your kids that the only thing they are suit for is marriage and childbirth, this movie is not for you. This movie is for women, all women, no matter their race, sexuality, body, or relationship status. As a 13 year old girl, I can confidently say, this movie, and Barbie as a whole has inspired me to be more confident, and less self conscious of my image. In a society built on patriarchy, be a Barbie.

Okay for 9+, but aimed at 13+

This movie was hilarious. It is filled with positive messages about feminism and gender equality. There isn’t much violence, there is a battle with funny weapons (volleyballs, tennis rackets) at a beach in barbieland, the scene is more like a dance, than a fight. Ken says: “I don’t have a penis and she doesn’t have a vagina.” to a group of random people. There is the c-word. I don’t recall any drinking.

Way too inappropriate for young children, sexual and political

The Barbie Movie is inappropriate for young children. This disappoints me as young children are the ones who play with the Barbies and like them. Barbie was seen as a sexual object in the real world, the movie was TOO POLITICAL AND SEXUAL FOR YOUNG CHILDREN. Turning a kids toy movie into current political situations is wrong. Children should not have to focus on Politics. When Ken tried taking over BarbieLand, the Barbies were all seen as sexual objects and brainwashed into stereotypical dumb blondes trying to get the attention of men in FRENCH MAID OUTFITS and 2000’s miniskirts and to unbrainwash them, Gloria (America Ferrera) had to say to barbies ‘they treat you so rude and you get the blame and your man boss treats you like an objects’ etc. The first two thirds of the movie were good, even though all the sexual references were in them. I enjoyed seeing Barbie be Barbie and Ken being Ken. When the last third of the movie started being patriotic, political and sexual, it all went downhill. I was also disappointed to see Raquel and Ryan not seen at all and only a quick glance at Skipper and Stacey. Barbie has TOO MANY SEXUAL REFERENCES. In the real world, she tells construction workers that ‘I don’t have a Vagina and Ken doesn’t have a Penis.’ The ugly barbie also makes a reference wondering how Kens ‘nude blob’ looks under his jeans. At the end of the movie, Barbie is seen going to a Gynaecologist appointment. And also the Barbie song with Nicki Minaj and Ice Sppice at the end has sexual lines including: ‘I’m ready to bend’ ‘He spank me when I get bad’ ‘That p---y so cold’ Sexual References: ‘Vagina’ ‘Penis’ French Maid outfits, ‘nude blob’ (and sexual looks when thinking) slap on ass, Sexual slang when entering Real World, Gynaecologist appointment Political References: Women’s Rights, Patriarchy, ‘they treat you so bad and sexual and a you can’t do anything, you take the blame for them and they don’t appreciate it’ etc. , Men in charge seen as wrong and Women in charge seen as right, Men seen as bad and sexual and Women seen as sexual objects, The first two thirds of the movie were good, even though all the sexual references were in them. I enjoyed seeing Barbie be Barbie and Ken being Ken. When the last third of the movie started being patriotic, political and sexual, it all went downhill. I was also disappointed to see Raquel and Ryan not seen at all and only a quick glance at Skipper and Stacey. Overall, Sexualising a child doll movie is wrong. Barbie is seen as a massive political feminist in a kids movie, she uses the words ‘Penis and Vagina’ Too many sexual references, Too many political scenes, The rating is wrong and I don’t recommend sending your kids to watch it unless you want them over-sexualised and asking about the words and phrases used in the movie.

Not Worth Your Time

Ken realized he could be a sexist man who can take control over Barbie land and treat women like pets after visiting the real world. He thinks men control everything, so he brainwashed the Barbies and a lady from the real world had to tell them all the troubles that females go through and they snapped out of it and the Barbies tried taking back Barbie world. It was over all a dumb movie and they just added so much unnecessary inappropriate content. It doesn’t show the lead female character being very smart. It’s disappointing because the marketing shows that it would be a great mother daughter movie that looks really good but overall it’s not worth your time or money.
